Caesars Announces $160M Revamp of Iconic Lake Tahoe Casino

Roman Empire Rises in the Sierra Nevada

Caesars Entertainment is going all in on Lake Tahoe’s future with a $160 million bet. The company announced plans to rebrand Harveys Lake Tahoe as Caesars Republic Lake Tahoe Hotel & Casino. The official rebranding will take place on July 1, 2025, according to the company.

This royal flush of renovations represents the largest investment in the property’s 80-year history. Work began in late 2024 and will continue through mid-2026, with the entire 1.6 million square foot property getting a makeover.

“Lake Tahoe is a stunning destination, and we’re elated to bring a new world-class resort worthy of its allure to the lakefront,” said the president and COO of Caesars Entertainment, Anthony Carano. “The property transformation has begun and will continue throughout 2026.”

The house won’t fold on operations during construction. The property will remain open throughout the renovation, with work pausing during peak seasons in the summer to minimize disruption for visitors.

High Limit Action

With this move, Caesars is doubling down on premium gaming with their new High Limit Room. With a biometric butler service that uses facial recognition to deliver personalized service, this 3,200-square-foot space aims to attract high rollers wagering $500+ per hand.

The betting casino floor itself is getting a total makeover across its 88,000 square feet. Players will soon enjoy new carpet, lighting, tables, chairs, and digital displays. The renovation adds new slots and a dedicated World Series of Poker Room that will attract serious players.

Tech innovations include “Smart Tables” with embedded sensors that automatically raise blinds based on chip stack sizes and holographic card displays projecting community cards in 4K. The pressure-sensitive felt can even detect players’ nervous ticks to adjust comp offers… Talk about having tells!

Mountain High Stakes

This comes as the Lake Tahoe casino scene is on fire. The region’s cash casinos hit a hot streak in January 2025, generating $22 million in revenue, up 22.4% year over year.

While Vegas gets all the casino news headlines, Tahoe’s casinos are using their natural beauty and boutique gaming to attract a different kind of player. The combination of outdoor adventure and casino gaming has Tahoe standing out from the crowd.

“Tahoe casinos are embracing technology faster than Vegas,” noted gaming analyst Maria Chen in a recent report on online gambling regulations.

Over 60% of gamblers under 35 in Tahoe now prefer online casinos and the use of mobile gambling apps, placing bets even mid-ski on Heavenly’s slopes.

It looks like Caesars is positioning the property to capitalize on this trend by betting on luxury accommodations and cutting-edge gaming technology in one of the most beautiful places in America.

The Long Game

Caesars’ $160 million bet is a big counter to the region’s historical trend of declining gaming revenue. The timing lines up with broader regional efforts to diversify beyond casinos and into recreation and entertainment.

For a region that saw gaming revenue peak at $341 million in 2001 and decline to $219 million by 2018, this investment is a vote of confidence in Tahoe as a luxury destination.

As the cards are dealt on this big transformation, one thing is clear: Caesars is all in on bringing Vegas-style luxury and innovation to North America’s largest alpine lake. The house is raising the stakes, and players across the country will soon have a new reason to play blackjack for money in Lake Tahoe.
