The Truth Regarding the Casino Universe

It isn’t exactly breaking casino news that these incredible venues have spawned a litany of stories about what can and can’t go on inside the hallowed floors. We’re here to speak of some that are true while others are debunked.

Getting the Picture

One of the beliefs that has spread through time is that cameras and photography are not allowed on casino floors. Whether it is due to gambling regulations or simply looking out for the privacy of patrons, the buzz began that you could not take photos inside the shops.

Turns out that there is nothing to prevent you from taking a photo or selfie in a cash casino. That the entire ruse was perpetrated by the businesses themselves. Turns out they were the muscle to look out for the privacy of other customers. Sort of a way to menace people into not doing it while there was no actual law preventing it.

Casino.org spoke to an investigative reporter from Sin City who did his own digging into whether it was a myth or reality. In the end, the myth was busted, big time.

“I would often be told we could not take photos in a casino because it was illegal,” Las Vegas Review-Journal journalist A.D. Hopkins, who first began reporting on Las Vegas casinos in the 1970s, told the site. “Then I did a story on (future South Point owner) Mike Gaughan. He said, ‘That’s just bullsh*t!’

“He not only allowed me to take his picture in his casino, but insisted that I do. He figured that some security chiefs decided it was easier to tell newspaper photographers, untruthfully, that it was illegal than it was to make sure they had the consent of everyone in the picture.”

Vegas Matt Takes It to an Extreme

There are those who love to take selfies – some casinos have created areas where they try and get customers to take them. But with the prevalence of cell phones it has been difficult to manage those taking images with their devices.

When it comes to devices, one player who seems to be either on the in with shops for exposure or just does what he wants when he wants, is Vegas Matt. The guess is since his videos are professionally shot, he has approval of where he is doing his business.

Vegas Matt goes to legit gambling sites and professionally produces videos that show him making outrageous bets.

This is one instance where publicity and photography/videography on the casino floor is welcome. When someone is willing to make huge plays and splash it across the Internet, it is a win-win for everyone when it comes to people seeing where the event takes place, even if it is by association with what the casino floor looks like.

In the end, you get the picture: Getting the picture could be problematic, but there is actually nothing brick-and-mortar gambling venues can do to stop you.
