March iGaming Surge Pushes Pennsylvania to $574.5 Million Revenue Record

Record Month

Pennsylvania served up big casino news on Tuesday as the Gaming Control Board reported a total gaming revenue of $574.5 million for March 2025, beating the previous record by $20 million and answering the classic “who, what, when, where” in one breathtaking figure.

The “why” is clear: a double‑down by online casino players, whose wagers turned a solid month into a historic jackpot, despite a slower February.

The Ace Up Pennsylvania’s Sleeve

Digital play generated $238.2 million, a 25% year-over-year increase, and the second straight month online casinos have broken their state record. Slots were $235 million, tables $56 million and poker $3 million.

Pennsylvania’s iGaming vertical has become the second largest in the country since online gambling regulations were approved and the market launched in 2017. Analysts say March pushed the first quarter iGaming figure to $824 million, a full month earlier than 2024.

This certainly isn’t unexpected. Last year laid the groundwork for March. In 2024, Pennsylvania became the third state to ever hit $6 billion in annual gaming revenue, finishing at $6.14 billion. That was up 7.7% from 2023.

That momentum was driven almost entirely by digital bet plataforms. Online casinos surged 25% to $2.2 billion, enough to overtake every sector except retail slots and to claim more than one‑third of the statewide total.

While the digital felt was buzzing, the physical floor felt a small chill. Retail slot win slipped 2.4% to $222.5 million, and table game drop dipped 3.9 % to $81.9 million.

Sportsbooks, on the other hand, handled $842.9 million in wagers (up 5.3%) and kept $56.4 million after payouts. Add another $20.2 million from video gaming terminals and $4.3 million from fantasy contests, and Pennsylvania still came out on top across every major betting casino sector.

House Leaders & Tax Harvest

Three cash casinos dominated the virtual pit:

  1. Hollywood Casino at Penn National: $90.7 M
  2. Valley Forge Casino Resort: $64.8 M
  3. Rivers Casino Philadelphia: $38.6 M

Together, they captured 81 % of March’s online haul. Under Pennsylvania’s gambling regulations, the Keystone State has one of the most aggressive tax codes in the industry:

  • 54% on online slots
  • 16% on tables/poker
  • 36% on sports

This resulted in an estimated flow of $110 million to state and local coffers.

Can the Streak Continue?

With 22 online brands and 11 live sports skins, industry insiders expect April to hit the $1 billion quarter and full-year iGaming to clear $3 billion.

Expansion bills in neighboring states will eventually increase regional competition, but Pennsylvania’s first-mover advantage, deep player pool, and mature payment rails give it a strong lead.

Until another state matches March’s numbers, Pennsylvania will keep dealing from the top of the deck and proving that in the digital age, the online casino is where the house wins the most.
