Vegas Says Bye to TGI

We’ve all been there—hungry for a quick bite but not quite willing to give in to the greasy lure of fast food, yet still craving an affordable sit-down spot where you can enjoy a greasy meal and a margarita. For many people living in Las Vegas or just visiting, TGI Fridays has long been the go-to spot—until now.

Casino news broke earlier this week that four TGI Fridays locations in the Orleans, Sam’s Town, Aliante, and Gold Coast casinos have all closed. This follows a string of closures over the last few years, and in November of last year, the chain ultimately filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, citing issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Vegas Eater, nearly 130 of their locations have closed since the end of 2023, leaving only 125 still in operation (none of which are located in the Las Vegas area).

TGI Fridays, You’ll Be Missed

I’ll be honest—as a Vegas local who frequently pops into the casino for some gambling and a bite to eat, this one actually doesn’t hit home for me. Now, if they ripped away Yard House from Red Rock Casino, I might be aggressively suggesting we all donate to Darden Restaurants to get them out of the hole. However, regardless of my personal preferences, it’s undoubtedly a bummer for many of the people who enjoyed the TGI Fridays menu frequently.

But in Vegas, everything moves so fast that nothing stays shocking for long. One day, there’s a dive bar you love; the next, it’s a nightclub. Hell, my favorite bakery turned into a tattoo shop practically overnight. That’s just how Vegas rolls—if you can’t keep up with the ever-evolving market, something shinier and newer is always waiting around the corner.

That said, for nostalgia lovers and creatures of comfort, this one certainly stings. But hey, if you’re lucky enough to still have a TGI Fridays nearby and access to an online casino, you can always recreate the experience—grab some takeout, fire up a bet platform, and hope the odds are in your favor.
