Panthers Go Back-to-Back

The Penrith Panthers scored consecutive NRL titles in 2022. They dominated throughout the season in one of the more impressive years to date.

They played 24 games and scored 20 wins. Most of their losses came without their best players in Nathan Cleary and Jarome Luai, who were on the bench with injuries and suspensions, so the record is even more impressive.

They faced the Parramatta Eels in the final and raced out to an 18-0 halftime lead. The end score was a comfortable 28-12 victory to secure another title.

It was their third straight Grand Final appearance, having been beaten by the Melbourne Storm in 2020. They have created a dynasty and we don’t see the Panthers slowing down anytime soon.

They are the favorites to win the 2023 NRL Premiership with the sportsbook and rightfully so.

Kangaroos Dominate World Cup

Following the NRL season, the international teams played the Rugby League World Cup where Australia lived up to expectations.

The Kangaroos were the short favorites to win over the likes of New Zealand and host England. Despite some nervous moments against the Kiwis in the semifinal, which they won 16-14, they couldn’t have been more impressive in the final.

They scored a huge 30-10 win against Samoa as the -14½ favorites to win yet another World Cup.

Many of the best league players get offered big money to move to the union, including Samoa and Roosters star Joseph Suaalii.

The Roosters whiz-kid has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave at the end of next season or stay for 2024, of which he has until April to push go on,” The Daily Telegraph originally reported.

The greatest threat to the Roosters losing Suaalii may not be a rival NRL club, but rugby union. Rugby Australia is reportedly willing to offer the supreme talent a $10 million five-year deal.”

Union’s Best Team Up for Debate

Knowing which team is currently the best in the world at rugby union is like finding a needle in a haystack.

For years it has been the New Zealand All Blacks, but after an interesting 2022, they have competition for the World Cup in France next year – namely the French Rugby.

New Zealand won the Rugby Championship, but it almost lost its coach after a public vote of no confidence. The All Blacks decided to keep coach Ian Foster, but if he doesn’t win in 2023, he’ll be gone quickly.

The biggest threat to the All Blacks was France, which played well this year and will enjoy playing in front of home fans.

We also saw a slight resurgence from Australia and South Africa, who had struggled against New Zealand for years. However, they showed enough in 2022 to suggest the rebuilding phase went well.

England’s demise was well-noted. It went from a dominant team in the Northern Hemisphere to struggling against the likes of France and Ireland, so improvement is needed.

Rugby odds have England drifting in World Cup betting markets and we won’t be backing them to win.
