Parramatta Needs to Rebound in NRL Round 23

It’s Getting Tense

Life got more interesting for the Parramatta Eels when losing last week, but now their focus shifts to the Canterbury Bulldogs.

NRL odds have the Eels at -300 to win outright against a Bulldogs team that could produce anything. There is a lot of inconsistency with the teams and it should make for an exciting NRL Round 23 contest.

Let’s review the latest Rugby news, stats, injury reports, and Rugby odds for Eels vs Bulldogs. We’ve plenty of Rugby picks and predictions for you to consider.

Eels Slipping and Sliding

We were impressed with the Eels’ wins over the Panthers and Sea Eagles, but they fell back to earth with a terrible 26-0 loss to the Rabbitohs last week.

They have been wildly inconsistent for most of the year and they now sit in seventh spot on the NRL ladder with a few weeks left. It’s not the ideal situation to be in, so a win over the Bulldogs is needed.

NRL analyst Matty Johns commented on their inconsistency.

“They’re consistent in their inconsistency. When they play a great game, you know the next week a stinker is coming,” Johns told Fox Sports. “Impossible to follow. I thought their second half performance against Manly was outstanding and I expected a lot more, everyone did, against the Bunnies.”

Not scoring a point is a worrying trend and bouncing back a week later is never easy. However, there are some things going in favor of the sportsbook favorite.

The Bulldogs have a 9-26 record at CommBank Stadium and that’s tough to overlook, so the Eels could take advantage of playing at home.

Bulldogs in Limbo

There were high expectations for the Bulldogs but after a shocking start to the year, which included a coaching change, they haven’t been able to get going.

They sit 12th on the ladder, but they’re one loss from potentially dropping to 14th. Bettors don’t know what to expect week-to-week and, much like the Eels, betting on them has been tough.

Betting online markets have the Bulldogs at +200 to win and that’s a fair price following heavy losses to the Cowboys and Warriors. Losing 42-18 to the Warriors was a shocking result and it’s hard to see them turning around that result.

We’re not sure what to make of the Bulldogs. They have the players to compete with the best teams in the competition, but the management is poor and there is no leadership on the field.

They’re good enough to keep it close against an Eels team struggling with confidence, but investing in the Bulldogs hasn’t been a fruitful exercise in 2022.

Eels vs Bulldogs Head-to-Head

The Eels have a slight 24-23 edge over the Bulldogs, but it was the latter who won the most recent meeting.

It was a one-sided affair earlier this year as the Bulldogs ran away 34-4 winners at home. It was another inconsistent performance for the Eels, who need to turn that result around.

Eels vs Bulldogs Prediction

We’re taking a risk betting on the Eels but they are the better team. With the playoffs in their minds, they should want to produce a comprehensive performance against the struggling Bulldogs.

NRL odds are expected to shorten for the Eels and we’re comfortable taking them at -9½, as the Bulldogs couldn’t even keep up with the Warriors last week.

All things being equal, the Eels should produce one of their better performances of the year.
