Sydney Heavyweights Set to Collide

Close Contest Expected

The sportsbook has a close contest predicted between the Manly Sea Eagles and South Sydney Rabbitohs on Saturday.

After giving up a lead against the Roosters last week, the Rabbitohs have been trusted with favoritism as the -4½ favorites with NRL lines.

Saturday’s game couldn’t be more important to establish which Sydney-based team is strongest going forward.

Sea Eagles Seeking Three Straight

The Sea Eagles have a quality team in 2023 and that’s evident after two impressive wins over the Bulldogs and Eels.

They scored a 34-30, last-gasp win over the Eels, which showcased their scoring ability and their heart. If they can keep producing performances like that, they’re a chance to beat teams like the Rabbitohs.

It followed a 31-6 win over the Bulldogs, who have since won consecutive games, so the form checks out, and that has been reflected with Las Vegas odds. They are +140 underdogs on the road, so there’s only one try between them.

Having Tom Trbojevic on the team is a blessing according to NRL news.

“He’s got more to his game than (James) Tedesco [and] he’s a different type of player to (Cameron) Munster”, NRL legend Phil Gould said. “Munster is a great attacking force, obviously, but Tommy has a number of strings to his bow. His running game, his passing game, his physicality. He’s a big man – people don’t realize how big he is. His speed, his ability to make players miss, his sense of timing, his sense of where to turn up in games.”

Winning three games on the bounce could propel the Sea Eagles’ confidence levels, which would make them an NRL 2023 premiership contender.

Rabbitohs Unwaived

The Rabbitohs opened their year with a win over the Sharks, but after losses to the Panthers and Roosters, they could be down on their luck.

However, as one of the better teams in the NRL, they should be unfazed. Those losses were close, so there wasn’t much between them. It took some brilliance from the Panthers and Roosters, so we’re not worried.

The only problem is that they face another premium team the Sea Eagles. It doesn’t get any easier for the Rabbitohs, who lost Hame Sele and Tavita Tatola last week, which doesn’t help their cause.

Online gambling odds have the Rabbitohs at -180 in moneyline markets, so there is some trepidation. We expected them to be around -250 at home, so bettors have taken a confidence hit when it comes to betting on the Rabbits.

There is only one way to restore confidence: Win on Saturday and get back on track for a title tilt.

Rabbitohs vs Sea Eagles Head-to-Head

It’s a 21-21 split from 42 games, but the Rabbitohs have been piling on the points in recent meetings.

The most recent game was a 40-22 result to the Rabbitohs, which followed a 36-16 win.

Rabbitohs vs Sea Eagles Picks and Prediction

Our NRL picks have the Sea Eagles turning around their poor form against the Rabbitohs. They have been the better team so far this year, so we don’t see why that wouldn’t continue.

With only one try expected to be between them, it should come down to the wire. We see the Sea Eagles holding a slim lead late in the game and trying to hold off a powerful finish from the home side.

The Melbourne Storm are listed at -350 in our Vegas NRL lines. This means that if you wager $100 on Melbourn, you have a chance to win $29. The West Tigers are +225, offering a chance to win $225 on a $100 wager. The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives Storm a 77.78% chance to win, with Tigers at 30.77%.
