Sydney Heavyweights Battle
It’s always a good game between the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Cronulla Sharks, which is reflected by a close NRL lines market.
The sportsbook has the Rabbitohs favored by four points on the road, but the Sharks are circling and ready to cause a minor upset.
Rabbitohs to Pounce
The Rabbitohs are always in premiership contention with NRL picks and this year is no different.
They are expected to be right around the top of the ladder in 2023, and it could start with a win over the Sharks.
Packed with a quality roster, including Latrell Mitchell, Alex Johnston and Cody Walker, there are no excuses for the Rabbitohs not living up to those expectations.
Starting the year on the road against the Sharks as a sportsbook favorite isn’t an ideal situation. Playing at Shark Park hasn’t been easy for many visiting teams, but the best team in this matchup is the Rabbitohs.
Re-signing Mitchell, Walker and Damien Cook is a big boost, according to captain Cam Murray.
“It’s a massive advantage for us and it’s brought a lot of confidence for us this year, especially after a pretty important part of our spine signed on for the next couple of years”, Murray said.
“I think we’ll be much better for it this year after a few ups and downs last year with the changing of a coach and having ‘Reyno’ and ‘Gags’ moving on”.
Business as Usual for Sharks
Not much changed in the offseason for the Sharks, who still have most of their spine intact.
They have the likes of Sione Katoa, Matt Moylan and Dale Finucane, but they might have needed to acquire more talent.
Those players haven’t been enough for the Sharks to win recently, so we’re not sure how much improvement they have to come in 2023.
There hasn’t been much positive NRL news coming from the camp and that’s evident in sports betting markets. They would usually be favored to win at home in the opening game, but there is trepidation with bettors.
The Sharks were manhandled by the Rabbitohs in September last year. The 38-12 loss was tough to stomach in front of their home fans, so they need to push that nightmare to the back of their minds.
However, redemption is sweet, and bettors get a +4½ line to enjoy for the Sharks.
Rabbitohs vs Sharks Head-to-Head
The Rabbitohs knocked the Sharks out of the playoffs last year with a one-sided road victory.
However, the Sharks won the previous meeting 21-20, and they have a 19-17 lifetime advantage.

Online gambling markets have the Rabbitohs favored to win, and although it’s a tough first-up game, they should prevail.
There are no kinks of their armor, so they should have too many guns for the Sharks.
The opening -4 line moved to -4½, which could be a crucial move.
