Mismatch Looming in NRL Round 21

Can the Warriors Hang?

It has been a disastrous season for the New Zealand Warriors, who are just trying to keep it close against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

NRL betting markets have the Rabbitohs at -18½ and that’s always a tough line to cover. However, the Warriors need to play better or they could be on the wrong side of a blowout.

Let’s review the latest rugby news, stats, injury reports, and rugby odds for Rabbitohs vs Warriors. We’ve plenty of rugby picks and predictions for you to consider.

Rabbitohs Closing In

The Rabbitohs had won four consecutive games before losing to the Cronulla Sharks 21-20 last week. Despite the loss, it was another solid outing and they should draw confidence from that effort.

Having beaten the likes of the Storm, Knights, and Eels prior to the loss, we’re not surprised by the sportsbook opening the Rabbitohs at -1200 in moneyline markets.

With the playoffs in sight, the Rabbitohs have turned up the wicker and the difference has been Latrell Mitchell. The representative player has controlled the game at the back and he has the X-factor.

The Warriors don’t have any star players at the moment, so if Mitchell has a big game on Saturday, he could score a couple of tries and set up more.

Former player Cooper Cronk believes it’s scary how good Mitchell has returned after spending 12 weeks on the sidelines.

“That is scary. That is intimidating,” Cronk told Fox Sports. “He went away for 12 weeks, got his body right and his mind right. I’ve played with and against Latrell and I’ve never seen him so committed, so dialled in.

“He literally wants to throw South Sydney on his back and it’s a scary sign for the rest of the competition because that and what he’s done the last two weeks, that makes South Sydney scary towards the back end of this season.”

Warriors in Limbo

The Warriors are in a tricky situation. They have no chance of making the playoffs but they still want to play well for their fans.

However, despite wanting to play well, it’s just not happening for the New Zealand franchise. They have lost four of their last five games and the only win came against the lowly Wests Tigers.

Recent losses to the Raiders and Storm don’t bode well, especially the Raider’s loss. They were ahead 14-0 at halftime and allowed 26 points in the second half. It was another disappointing loss for the Warriors, who sit in the 13th spot.

Betting online markets have given up giving the Warriors respect. The +600 odds are generous but they are accurate. However, they’re good enough to cover the spread if the likes of Reece Walsh and Shaun Johnson play well.

Johnson had his best game of the season against the Storm. He’s a confident player, so he could put the Warriors on his back and show bettors why he was a big-contract player.

Rabbitohs vs Warriors Head-to-Head

The Rabbitohs and Warriors have met 36 times and it’s a 19-17 advantage to the Rabbitohs.

They met in May and it was the Rabbitohs edging clear with a tough 32-30 win. It was a close contest throughout, which was the polar opposite of the previous meeting where the Rabbits won 60-22 at home.

Rabbitohs vs Warriors Prediction

NRL odds are heavily favored toward the Rabbitohs but we’re picking the Warriors to cover the sizable spread.

They need to muster enough energy to play for 80 minutes, which has been a problem. However, we don’t think the home side is quite good enough to win by more than three converted tries.

It’s a huge margin to cover in Round 21 and we’re prepared to take the despised outsiders with the points.
