Battle for the Wooden Spoon
The wooden spoon isn’t something any team wants, so the Wests Tigers and Newcastle Knights have plenty to play for.
They’re sitting one and two spots off the bottom of the NRL premiership, which is held by the Gold Coast Titans. It’s not an ideal position but late-season momentum could see them climb the ladder and have a respectable finish.
Rugby odds have the Tigers favored to win following an upset win over the Broncos.
Tigers Ready to Roar
The Tigers scored a rare win against the Broncos last week and it should give them confidence to go on with the job.
The stunning 32-18 victory over a top four side came out of nowhere for a team struggling with a series of losses. However, they were robbed against the North Queensland Cowboys 27-26 and they pushed a second-string Panthers side to within two points.
There is improvement with the Tigers and they should fancy their chances of beating the Knights, who have rattled off four consecutive losses.
Having the likes of James Tamou and Joe Ofahengaue in the squad helps, but it’s a relatively inexperienced outfit. It explains the lack of success but they have heart, which is reflected at the sportsbook.
The Tigers aren’t in give up mode and it could be enough to edge them past the Knights as a -250 favorite on Sunday.
Knights Circling the Drain
More was expected from the Knights but they have once again failed to live up to expectations.
They defeated the Titans five weeks ago before losing to the Rabbitohs, Sea Eagles, Roosters, and Bulldogs. However, the biggest loss came at the fullback position with Kayln Ponga sitting out the rest of the year with concussion problems.
Losing Queensland representative Ponga is a kick in the guts for an already-struggling outfit, which showed no fight against the Bulldogs last week. They have scored just 34 points from their last three games, which isn’t good enough for modern NRL.
Standing down David Klemmer is another misstep by Knights’ management, so it only gets worse.
“The Newcastle Knights have issued David Klemmer with a show cause notice relating to on-field disciplinary matters in last Sunday’s match against the Canterbury Bulldogs,” the club told Nine.com.au.
“No further correspondence will be entered into until the show cause hearing process has been completed.”
Betting online markets have taken the turmoil into account with the +6½ line. There isn’t any cohesion with the Knights on and off the field, which could have a big impact on the result of their clash with the Tigers.
Tigers vs Knights Head-to-Head
The Knights got the better of the Tigers earlier this year, winning 26-4 in a dominant display.
Having home-field advantage helped the Knights, who were playing decently at the time, but have since regressed.
Since 1998, they have played 33 times and the Tigers have a narrow 17-13 advantage in the head-to-head.

Tigers vs Knights Prediction
We can’t look past the Tigers given the problems surrounding the Knights off the field this week.
We’re prepared to take the -250 in moneyline markets and also the -6½, which is currently trading at -105. The Knights with the points is -135, but we can’t understand why there is money coming for them.
NRL betting markets have the Tigers at a value price, so lock it in.
