Xabi Alonso’s Unstoppable Bayer Leverkusen Looks for Treble

Bayer Leverkusen extended their unbeaten run after a last-gasp Josip Stanisic goal secured a 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund.

The elected champions were on course to finally lose their first game of the season, but Stanisic decided to extend the team’s unbeaten run to 45 matches with a headed goal deep into injury time after receiving an amazing cross from the one and only Florian Wirtz.

Under boss Xabi Alonso, the Bundesliga winners refuse to lose and are on the course of winning the treble. The German club secured its first Bundesliga crown last week with a 5-0 win over Werder Bremen and face second-tier Kaiserslautern in the German Cup final on May 25.

On top of that, they will play AS Roma in the Europa League semifinals and are top favorites to win the competition, priced at -135 according to our latest soccer odds.

Golden Boy Kane: Bayern’s Star Striker Sets Pace for Golden Boot Race

Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane is currently leading the way in the race for the Golden Boot, the prize awarded to the top scorer in Europe in a given season.

Kane struck once again in Bayern’s victory at Union Berlin on Matchday 30, taking his tally to 33 for the season and putting him way out in front ahead of Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, and Lautaro Martinez. We will continue to include him in our Bundesliga picks and parlays.

Two Bundesliga players have previously received the gong, both of them Bayern stars, Gerd Muller in 1969-70 and 1971-72, and Robert Lewandowski in 2020-21 and 2021-22.

Last year’s winner was former Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, who scored 36 times for Manchester City. Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy is sitting second in the race with 16 points behind Kane.

Darmstadt’s Last Stand: Can They Avoid Relegation?

The bottom two in the standings will get automatically relegated to Bundesliga 2, while third from bottom will contest the play-off against the team that finishes third in the second division.

Darmstadt is currently sitting dead last, 10 points behind 16th-placed occupied by Bochum after keeping their slim hopes alive with a 2-0 win against FC Koln.

However, their relegation will be confirmed next Sunday if they lose at home to fellow promoted side Heidenheim. They will also be down if they don’t better Mainz or Bochum’s results, or get three points more than Union Berlin.

Darmstadt is the overwhelming favorite for relegation at -100000 odds.

Fifth Place Battle: Bundesliga’s Ticket to Champions League

Current UEFA coefficients would give the fifth place a spot in the Champions League. Bayern, Stuttgart, and Leipzig are all guaranteed to finish in the top five.

A single point for Dortmund away against RB Leipzig will see them finish no lower than fifth. They would also be guaranteed a top-five spot if Frankfurt fails to beat Bayern.

Frankfurt has occupied sixth place since the season’s mid-point and moved five points clear of Freiburg with a victory over Augsburg. As it stands, this spot will book them the tickets for the Conference League playoffs.

Questions Of The Day

Who will be Bayern Munich’s next manager?

According to Mundo Deportivo, Zinedine Zidane is one step away from becoming the next Bayern Munich manager. However, an agreement has not yet been signed between the former Real Madrid manager and the German club.

What is the best points record in Bundesliga history?

Bayern Munich recorded 91 points in the 2012-13 campaign. With 12 points in play in the final four Bundesliga fixtures, Leverkusen could beat this record as they now have 80 points to their name.
