World Cup Round of 16 Berth at Stake

One Spot Left in Group D

While France has had no trouble meeting expectations in Group D of the 2022 World Cup and already qualified for the Round of 16, Denmark has had a lot of issues. In fact, the Red and Whites must defeat Australia in order to advance as the group runners-up. The problem is that for the Socceroos, a draw is more than enough (assuming France beats or draws with Tunisia), which means it won’t be an easy match for the European side.

Let’s check the latest World Cup odds, stats, injury reports, and World Cup lines for Australia vs Denmark. We’ve plenty of World Cup betting odds for you to consider.

Australia: Turning Things Around

In 2010, Australia finished the World Cup in 21st place. In 2014 and 2018, they finished 30th. In other words, the Socceroos were just another competitor. Well, not this time. The Socceroos are poised to qualify for the Round of 16 for the first time since 2006.

After losing 4-1 to France in their debut, they defeated Tunisia 1-0, enough to be sitting in second place with three points. That’s why a draw would be enough because Denmark and Tunisia have one point each. Of course, if Tunisia pulls off a stunner against France, Australia would need to win to advance.

Craig Goodwin scored against France while Mitchell Duke scored against Tunisia. The Socceroos were more aggressive against Tunisia, playing 4-4-2 right from the start. Against France, they played 4-5-1 and relied on the counter-attack. I expect them to rely on the counter-attack once again on Wednesday.

Defensively, the Socceroos finished with a clean sheet in three of their last four games in all competitions. Plus, goalkeeper Mathew Ryan plays for Copenhagen, a team from Denmark’s Super League, meaning he knows the Red and Whites pretty well.

Denmark: Tough Luck

Denmark drew 0-0 to Tunisia in its debut. The Red and Whites dominated the game and finished with five shots on target, four more than the Eagles of Carthage. They also won possession with 62 percent, but they weren’t effective in front of goal.

Four days later, they put up a really good fight against France before Kylian Mbappe decided to go full beast mode. Les Bleus ended up winning 2-1 as Mbappe scored both goals, the second in the 86th minute. Once again, the Red and Whites won possession with 52 percent.

I expect Denmark to be extremely aggressive right from the start. Their attacking unit includes Andreas Cornelius, Martin Braithwaite, Kasper Dolberg and Yussuf Poulsen so they shouldn’t have any problem with that.

We’re also talking about a well-balanced squad since the Red and Whites finished with a clean sheet in three of their last five games, including a 2-0 victory over France in the UEFA Nations League. I’m telling you, prior to the start of the WC, Denmark was considered a soccer betting dark horse.

Barring Tunisia beating France, defeating Australia would not only allow Denmark to move forward, but also send a clear message to other contenders, especially if they manage to win comfortably.

Australia vs Denmark Picks & Prediction

  • Worth Betting on the Moneyline?

Not really. I mean, Denmark comes in as the betting online favorite at -200, meaning you would need to wager $200 to win $100. That’s kind of high. On the other hand, Australia is offering a +575 price, meaning a $100 wager could turn into a $675 payout, but I don’t think the Socceroos will pull off the stunner.

  • Worth Betting ATS?

The spread is offering a better deal since Denmark is -1 at -115, so the risk is lower and the Red and Whites are more than capable of winning by two goals. In fact, three of their last five victories in all competitions were by at least two goals.

  • Worth Betting on the Totals?

Yes. Let’s not forget that a ticket for the Round of 16 is on the line, meaning both must go all-in right from the start. Denmark scored in four of their last five games, same as Australia. Finally, the total is set at 2½ goals with the over at -110. It’s the best deal of the three.

Score Prediction: Denmark 3, Australia 1
