Not So Fast …
Brazil hasn’t won the World Cup since 2002. Nevertheless, Neymar and Co. come in as the betting online favorites to win the 2022 edition thanks to a +330 price. The main reason is that their attacking unit is uncanny. As expected, Brazil also comes in as the favorite to defeat Serbia in their debut, but not so fast. The European side also has an incredibly talented attacking unit.

Brazil vs Serbia Betting Lines
Brazil: Talent to Spare
Brazil’s attacking unit is so good that the following players weren’t included on the 26-man squad for the WC: Roberto Firmino, Matheus Cunha, David Neres, Gabriel Barbosa and Philippe Coutinho. Coutinho was left out due to injury, but still – of them would have been starters on pretty much any other team. The following did make the list: Neymar, Vinicius Junior, Raphinha, Pedro, Rodrygo, Richarlison, Gabriel Jesus, Antony and Gabriel Martinelli.
La Verdeamarela finished the CONMEBOL qualifiers undefeated with a 14-3-0 record. That’s another reason for them to be in control of the soccer lines for winning the title. As if that wasn’t enough, they scored 40 goals, more than any other team. Argentina, which finished second, scored 27.
Defensively, Brazil only allowed five goals in 17 games. That’s right, their defense is also very good. So good that no other team allowed fewer goals. To give you an even better idea, their defensive unit includes Allison, Eder Militao, Thiago Silva and Alex Sandro, to name a few.
Brazil’s last tuneup matchup was against Tunisia. La Verdeamarela had no mercy and won 5-1 with Raphinha, Richarlison, Neymar, and Pedro as the scorers. Raphinha was named Man of the Match after scoring a brace.
Serbia: Nothing to Envy
Serbia won Group A of the UEFA qualifiers with 20 points, three more than Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal. That’s right, the Eagles are used to pulling off stunners. During the qualifiers, they scored 18 goals, one more than Portugal. Aleksandar Mitrovic finished as the team’s top scorer with eight goals.
Besides Mitrovic, Serbia’s attacking unit includes Dusan Vlahovic, Luka Jovic, Dusan Tadic, Filip Djuricic, and Nemanja Radonjic. We had to arrange a horse race between Vlahovic, Jovic and Tadic to determine Serbia’s top player. That’s how good they are.
The Eagles also won their last tuneup match prior to the WC. The 5-1 win was against Bahrain and Tadic, Vlahovic, Djuricic, and Jovic were the scorers. Tadic was named Man of the Match after scoring a brace.
Last but not least, they’ve no major injury concerns. Qatar 2022 will be Serbia’s third WC, but they’ve never had a real chance to make an impact until now.

Brazil vs Serbia Picks & Prediction
- Worth betting on the Moneyline?
Yes. Brazil is offering a -205 price in the sportsbook. Considering the Verdeamarela have gone 15 straight games without losing, that’s a really good deal. I mean, with such a talented roster, it could have been -500. On the other hand, Serbia is offering a +550 price. If you were looking for an underdog to include in your soccer picks, Vlahovic and company could be the answer. A Serbian victory would turn a $100 wager into a $650 payout.
- Worth betting ATS?
Not really. Brazil is -1 (-125), while Serbia is +1 (+105). I do believe Brazil will end up fulfilling its role as a favorite, but Serbia will put up a good fight. That means I don’t see the South Americans winning by more than one goal.
- Worth betting on the Totals?
This is it. The total is set at 2½ goals. That’s crazy considering the number of world-class strikers that will be on the pitch. Brazil scored three or more goals in six of its last seven games in all competitions. On the other hand, Serbia scored at least two goals in four of its last five matches.
Score Prediction: Brazil 3, Serbia 2
