Costa Rica: Redeemed

Costa Rica lost 7-0 to Spain in its debut. As if the beating wasn’t enough, Los Ticos didn’t take a single shot on target. After the game, several players from Spain told the media that Los Ticos seemed tired from the get-go.

Four days later, Costa Rica faced Japan. As expected, the Blue Samurai were the betting online favorites, especially after defeating Germany 2-1 in their debut. Well, Los Ticos found a way to redeem themselves, they won 1-0 thanks to Keysher Fuller, who scored in the 81st minute. That was Costa Rica’s lone shot on target.

That’s why Costa Rica could advance with a draw. The problem is that they would also need Spain to defeat Japan because the goal difference is the first tiebreaker and Los Ticos are -6, while Japan is 0. If both matches finished with a draw, the Blue Samurai advance

Once again, Costa Rica will rely on Keylor Navas, considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Offensively, Joel Campbell should be the one keeping the German defense busy. That being said, expect Los Ticos to play 5-4-1 and heavily rely on the counterattack.

Germany: Sleeping Giant

Germany has won the World Cup four times. They reached the semifinals in four of the last five editions. Miroslav Klose, who played in four editions from 2002 and 2014, is the tournament’s overall top scorer with 16 goals. In other words, we’re talking about a powerhouse.

The thing is that Germany lost 2-1 to Japan in its debut. They started winning thanks to Ilkay Gundogan, who scored from the penalty spot in the first half. Nevertheless, the defense couldn’t hold up and Japan turned things around in the second. The Blue Samurai scored twice in an eight-minute span.

Most recently, they put up a much better fight against Spain. The clash of the titans finished 1-1. Both goals were scored in the second half, with Niclas Fullkrug saving the day for Germany in the 83rd minute.

Speaking of Fullkrug, he could be included in the starting lineup for the first time in the tournament. After all, the Germans have no other option than to win. The same goes for Leroy Sane, who has been coming off the bench. The thing is that Serge Gnabry and Thomas Muller haven’t met expectations.

Last but not least, Germany won the only official matchup between the two. It was in the 2006 World Cup and the European side won 4-2.

Costa Rica vs Germany Picks & Prediction

  • Is it Worth betting on the Moneyline?

Only if you’ve some cash to spare. While Costa Rica managed to leave the humiliating defeat against Spain behind, Los Ticos are a limited team. They’ll suffer tremendously to win a point against Germany. In fact, I don’t think they’ll. Germany will go all-in right from the start, and they also have one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Manuel Neuer. Germany is offering a -1000 price in the sportsbook to win straight up. That’s a bit high.

  • Is it Worth betting on ATS?

I think so. While I do expect Germany to win, I don’t see the Europeans winning by more than two goals. After all, they’ve had some chemistry problems. On the other hand, Costa Rica will heavily rely on the counterattack, meaning the defense will lead the way, just like it did against Japan. Therefore, our soccer betting recommendation is to include Costa Rica + 2½ at -105 in your ticket.

  • Is it Worth betting on the Totals?

Again, not really. The game total is set at 3½, with the over offering a -120 price and the under at Ev. Regarding the teams, Costa Rica is offering a +130 price to score, but I don’t think Los Ticos will. As for Germany, the Europeans are offering a -160 price to score less than 3½ goals. The spread is a better deal.

Score Prediction: Germany 2, Costa Rica 0
