Against Iran, they don’t have any other option than to be effective in front of the goal. Therefore, I expect the Stars and Stripes to win by one goal. They won by one goal twice during the qualifiers. They also won the 2021 Gold Cup Semifinal and Final by one goal. Last but not least, they also defeated Mexico by one goal in the Final of the CONCACAF Nations League.

Yes, I expect the USA to win, but that doesn’t mean Iran won’t put up a good fight. First of all, Team Melli scored two goals against England. Yes, they conceded six, but the point is that they never gave up. Second, they have a certified scorer in Mehdi Taremi, who could climb to the top of the tournament’s scoring chart with a goal. Finally, they defeated Wales 2-0 with two goals in stoppage time. Again, they never give up.

The bottom line is that I also expect Iran to score. Therefore, the total will go over 2½ goals. My final score prediction is USA 2-1.

Iran to Score Last (+175)

Having established that Iran will score, let’s add another twist. Team Melli will score last, just as they did in four of their last five matches in which both teams scored. Plus, three of the team’s four goals in the 2022 World Cup have been in added time. In other words, the USA will suffer until the end, but again, I expect Christian Pulisic and company to make it out of the Group Stage.
