Without Messi, Suarez, Inter Milan Value Underdogs vs Union

There’s good news and bad news for Inter Miami. The good news is that its next opponent, the Philadelphia Union, only won one of its last 10 MLS games. The bad news is that five players won’t be available for Miami due to international duty, including the team’s top two scorers, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. That’s the main reason for the Herons to come in as the betting online underdogs at +265, which isn’t a bad deal, especially if you like to take risks. When considering the current MLS odds, this matchup presents an interesting opportunity for bettors.

Philadelphia Union vs Inter Miami Odds and Spreads

Who Else Won’t Be Available for Inter Miami?

Besides Messi and Suarez, who are preparing to play in the Copa America 2024 with Argentina and Uruguay, Inter Miami head coach Gerardo Martino can’t count on David Ruiz, Matias Rojas and Benjamin Cremaschi. Rojas will represent Paraguay in the Copa America as well, while Ruiz (Honduras) and Cremaschi (U-23 USA) were called up for a couple of friendlies.

Inter Miami has performed well on the road. The Herons are 5-2-1, but keep in mind that Messi and Suarez didn’t play in that lone defeat against the Vancouver Whitecaps, a team very similar to the Philadelphia Union.

Most recently, even with both superstars on the pitch, the Herons failed to fulfill their role as favorites against St. Louis City SC. Messi and Suarez scored one goal each, but the game finished 3-3 thanks to a late goal by Jordi Alba.

The good news is that players like Alba, Sergio Busquets, Leonardo Campana and Robert Taylor will be available. They should be enough for the Herons to put up a good fight, but there’s no doubt that they’re going to miss Messi and Suarez, who have combined to score 24 goals.

Even so, they’ll face a team that’s 1-5-4 in its last 10 games. That and the +265 price they’re offering to win straight up makes the Herons a very tempting underdog to include in your soccer picks.

Philadelphia Union in a Spiral

The Philadelphia Union began the season 3-4-0. Since then, head coach Jim Curtin and the boys are 1-4-4. A lot has happened between being undefeated to only winning one of the last nine games, including injuries, suspensions and bad luck.

Most recently, the Union drew 2-2 against CF Montreal. Besides failing to win the three points at home, Philly lost Jack Elliott, who was sent off and will miss the next two games. That’s going to affect a defensive unit that was already in trouble.

As if that weren’t enough, Andre Blake, one of the best goalkeepers in the league, will miss four to six weeks due to a knee injury. Plus, Daniel Gazdag, the team’s top scorer with 10 goals, won’t be available due to the 2024 Euro tournament. Jack McGlynn and Nate Harriel will also miss this game thanks to the U-23 USA camp.

So, who’s taking the reins for the Union? There’s Julian Carranza, who has scored six goals, and Mikael Uhre, who has scored five. Defensively, Kai Wagner is expected to lead the charge while goalkeeper Olvier Semmle has been gaining confidence in recent games.

The thing is, the Union is 1-3-4 at home, which makes the visitors an even more tempting soccer betting underdog. You know what? Give Inter Miami the benefit of the doubt in its first game without Messi and Saurez. I think Campana will take advantage of the opportunity to prove he deserves a seat at the table with the two superstars. Plus, his chemistry with Alba has improved considerably. Take Miami to win a close one.
