Bayern Munich One Victory away from the Bundesliga Title

For the Ninth Straight Season

Bayern Munich lost to Mainz 05, and RB Leipzig defeated Stuttgart, but Hans-Dieter Flick’s team remains the huge favorite to win the Bundesliga title once again.

Let’s take a look at what happened in the last Bundesliga fixture and how the sports betting odds for what’s coming are set.

Bundesliga Breakdown

Bayern Munich’s Embarrassing Defeat

Mainz 05 challenged the Bundesliga Odds and defeated Bayern Munich 2-1 last Saturday. That victory boosted Mainz 05 to twelfth place with 34 points, pretty much saving them from relegation.

Robert Lewandowski returned from injury and scored, but that wasn’t enough for Bayern Munich. “Our play on and off the ball was half a second slower than normal throughout. That made space for them. Mainz then defended all out, and in between that it become increasingly frustrating. We tried, but in the end, we didn’t deserve to take a point here,” said midfielder Thomas Muller after the game.

Now, they’ll have to wait until May 8, when they’ll be facing Borussia Monchengladbach at home and a victory would be enough to win the crown.

RB Leipzig defeated Stuttgart 2-0, and they’re one victory away from sealing second place and a Champions League ticket for next season. RB Leipzig owns the tournament’s best defensive unit after allowing just 25 goals in 31 games, but Bayern Munich owns the best offensive unit after scoring 86 goals.

Their next game will also be until May 8 against Borussia Dortmund.

Wolfsburg and Frankfurt lost to Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen, but they managed to remain in third and fourth place, at least for now. Borussia Dortmund is just two points behind Wolfsburg and one point behind Frankfurt, but their remaining schedule looks very tough: RB Leipzig, Mainz 05 and Bayer Leverkusen.

What about the Cup?

The reason for the Bundesliga to fully return until May 8 is the domestic cup, better known as DFB Pokal. The semifinals will be this weekend, with Werder Bremen playing host to RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund playing host to KSV Holstein.

Despite being fifth in the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund dominates the Odds to win the DFB Pokal with a -140 price.

At the Bottom

Arminia took advantage of the already relegated Schalke 04 and won 1-0 to get out of the relegation zone. Arminia sits in fifteenth place with 30 points, one more than Koln, who defeated Augsburg 3-2.

Right now, Hertha Berlin would be the other relegated team with 26 points. More recently, they drew 1-1 against Union Berlin and 2-2 against Borussia Monchengladbach, but the good news for them is that they’ve played three games less than Koln and Arminia.
