It couldn’t get better than this. The La Liga title race between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid entered the last stretch with both having a chance of winning the gold, but it’s Atletico who’s in the driver’s seat. This weekend is going to be wild.
Let’s take a look at what happened in the last La Liga fixture and how the sports betting odds for the last one are set.
La Liga Breakdown
One More Victory
On Sunday, Atletico Madrid came back against Osasuna and won 2-1 to remain in the driver’s seat. Diego Simeone’s team needs to beat Valladolid on Saturday to win the title, but Valladolid needs to win to avoid relegation.
Atletico’s offering a -500 price over the Odds to win La Liga, while Real Madrid is +350. Real Madrid defeated Athletic Bilbao 0-1 to remain in the race, but they’re running out of time and they don’t depend on themselves to win the gold.
Zinedine Zidane’s team will play host to Villarreal on Saturday as well. They need to win and hope that the game in Valladolid ends tied or with a home side victory. “Los Blancos” are huge favorites -245, but the “Yellow Submarine” also needs to win in order to gain access to the UEFA Europa League next season.
Both games will be at noon p.m. ET. In case you’re wondering, Atletico defeated Valladolid 2-0 in their first matchup, while Real Madrid and Villarreal drew 1-1.
Barcelona (2-1 to Celta de Vigo) and Sevilla (4-0 to Villarreal) lost in the last fixture and they no longer have a chance of winning the title, but they’ve already secured a ticket for the next edition of the UEFA Champions League. Individually, Lionel Messi will finish as La Liga’s top scorer.
UEFA Europa League Tickets
Real Sociedad, Real Betis and Villarreal have a race of their own. Right now, Real Sociedad and Betis sit in fifth and sixth place with 59 and 58 points, respectively, while Villarreal sits in seventh also with 58 points.
Whoever finishes in fifth and sixth place earns a ticket for the UEFA Europa League, and all three will be playing on the road this weekend. As we already mentioned, Villarreal will face Real Madrid, while Real Sociedad will face Osasuna and Betis will collide with Celta de Vigo, both as favorites at the La Liga Odds.
Avoiding Relegation
Eibar, Valladolid and Elche need more than a victory in the last fixture to avoid relegation. They also need S.D. Huesca to lose, but no matter what, three of them are going to play in the second division next season.
Only Elche won in the last fixture, 3-1 against Cadiz, but that wasn’t enough to get out of the relegation zone. This Saturday, all four will play at home: S.D. Huesca against Valencia, Elche against Athletic Bilbao, Eibar will face Barcelona and Valladolid will try to upset Atletico Madrid
