Argentina in the Copa America

No other team has won more Copa America titles than Argentina with 15. That’s including the ancient Copa Sudamericana, but still. As mentioned before, La Albiceleste won it for the last time in 2021. That was a special triumph because Messi and Co. defeated Brazil in the Grand Finale at Estadio Maracana.

Regardless of the result, it’s important to keep in mind that Argentina reached the final in three of the last five editions of Copa America. That includes the last time that the tournament was held in the United States. Plus, it’s the only team that has won a three-peat. Summing up, like it or not, Argentina is the King of the South.

The thing is that we’re talking about a sport and that means anything can happen. In that regard, you should also keep in mind that since 1989, Argentina hasn’t been eliminated before the quarterfinals, which means whether they win the title or not, you can expect a good fight from the reigning champions.

Finally, head coach Lionel Scaloni already led La Albiceleste to third and first place in the Copa America. Since he took over, Argentina is 48-15-6 in all competitions. That’s insane!

Messi Not the Only Players to Watch

I know you know who we’re going to talk about first. Of course, Lionel Messi, the veteran that remains one of the best players in the world and who’s having a great season in Major League Soccer.

So far, he has scored 12 goals, same as teammate Luis Suarez, who’s a center-striker. As if that weren’t enough, Messi leads MLS in assists with nine. We all know he can do it all, and don’t forget that he has scored 106 goals in 180 matches with Argentina.

Regarding the Copa America, he has scored 13 goals in total, but guess what? His best performance was in 2016, in the United States, with five goals. And now he doesn’t even have to travel!

Besides Messi, Argentina’s attacking unit includes Lautaro Martinez and Julian Alvarez. Martinez led Inter Milan to the Serie A title by scoring 24 goals. That was also enough for him to win the Golden Boot. As for Alvarez, he helped Manchester City win a fourth consecutive English Premier League title. Besides scoring 11 goals in the EPL, he also scored five goals in the UEFA Champions League.

Now, it’s time to talk about another veteran, Angel Di Maria. Also known as El Fideo, he was crucial for Argentina to win the title in 2021. In fact, he scored the winner in the Grand Finale. Di Maria, who currently plays for Benfica, has scored 30 goals in 138 games with Argentina. Trust me, he’s the X-factor.

Messi, Argentina Dominate Copa America Odds

Well, as expected, Argentina is the clear favorite to win Group A, in which La Albiceleste will face Chile, Peru and Canada. Messi and company are -400 and they’re followed by Chile at +600.

Regarding the title, things are a bit different because Brazil also has talent to spare. Even so, Argentina is atop the odds board thanks to a +175 price while Brazil is +225. If you’re going to include Argentina in your soccer parlays, do it now, because once the tournament starts, that price is going to change considerably.

Individually, Messi is atop the odds board to win the Golden Boot at +300. You won’t find a better deal, especially because Messi already feels extremely comfortable playing in the stadiums of the United States.

As for Alvarez and Martinez, they’re +600 and +800 in the sportsbook to win the Golden Boot Who should you take? There’s no wrong answer here, but in the end, Martinez is offering a better value. This is the tournament for him to demand the respect he deserves and proclaim himself as the team’s No. 1 striker.
