Real Madrid intends to announce Kylian Mbappé’s signing on a free transfer within days. Last month, Ligue 1 news outlets confirmed that Mbappé would leave Paris Saint-Germain after seven years. His mother, Fayza Lamari, even admitted that the talented striker would go “where everybody knows.” However, no formal announcement of his destination was made.
Real Madrid wanted to wait until their season ended before releasing a public statement. France head coach Didier Deschamps said he wanted Mbappé’s future resolved before the Euro 2024. And now, with Real Madrid’s 15th UEFA Champions League title secured after Saturday’s 2-0 win against Borussia Dortmund, they’re finally able to confirm the Ligue 1 rumors and make the announcement.

Mbappé’s official presentation will not take place until mid-July, as France is preparing for the Euros and it remains to be seen if Mbappé will participate in the Olympics.
After Saturday’s Champions League Final, Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti refused to discuss Mbappé’s arrival, saying he would not talk about any players not in Real Madrid, but star midfielder Jude Bellingham said Mbappé would “take us to the next level.”

Mbappé’s arrival puts an end to a seven-year pursuit by Real Madrid. The mutual interest of both parties had been the worst-kept secret in soccer. The 25-year-old kept shining in his Ligue 1 games before reaching the end of his contract. Paris Saint-Germain will lose Mbappé on a free transfer after rejecting a €200 million offer from Real Madrid in 2021. Now he leaves Paris Saint-Germain having failed to secure a UEFA Champions League title for them.
Kylian Mbappé’s stats with Paris Saint-Germain were unreal! He scored 27 goals with seven assists in 29 Ligue 1 games last season and eight goals in 12 UEFA Champions League games. Mbappé finished his Paris Saint-Germain career with 175 goals and 56 assists in 205 Ligue 1 games (182 starts) over seven years.

Mbappé has been Ligue 1 top scorer for five consecutive seasons, a record he shares with Jean-Pierre Papin. In the 2021-22 season, he finished with 28 goals and 17 assists in 35 Ligue 1 games (34 starts), becoming the first player to finish as top scorer and assist provider in the same Ligue 1 season. He’s also the only player to win the Ligue 1 Player of the Year award in four consecutive seasons.
