3 Reasons to Get Excited About Soccer Betting in 2024/25

1. Can Rodri Edge Vinicius to the Ballon d’Or?

From 2007 to 2023, every single winner of the Ballon d’Or has been born in the 1980s. However, that pattern looks set to change this year: there are plenty of young stars who are vying for the award given to the best men’s player in world football. Dani Carvajal (‘92) finds himself fourth in our at +1100 odds to win the Ballon d’Or following a season that has seen him win the La Liga title with Real Madrid, win the Euros with Spain, and score the opener in the UEFA Champions League Final to secure a 2-0 victory against Borussia Dortmund. His club teammate Jude Bellingham (‘03) has taken European football by storm, winning the La Liga Player of the Season in his debut campaign at the Bernabeu, but after failing to lead England to a maiden Euros triumph, it seems he will have to take a back seat and wait his turn.

Whilst Bellingham comes in at third at a respectable +600, Rodri (‘96) finds himself in the mix to become the first Spanish winner since Luis Suarez in 1960. Last year, Rodri played a pivotal role in Manchester City’s treble, and this year, he’s added another Premier League title to his trophy cabinet. And despite coming off at halftime in the Euros final, his Spain side held down the fort without him and prevailed with a 2-1 victory in Berlin. At +135 soccer odds, Rodri is making a formidable push to win the award at the expense of Vinicius Junior (‘00), who leads the way at +110. Vinicius has staked his claim as one of the game’s finest forwards, but after a disappointing Copa America display, it seems he could miss out on the award.

2. Is it Arsenal’s Time to Shine?

It looks set to be yet another enticing campaign in English football’s top flight, and all signs point to Arsenal (+175 on our odds to win the Premier League) and Manchester City (+110) battling it out for the title once again. Arsenal have gone from a laughingstock to a genuine challenger under Mikel Arteta, with the Gunners spending 248 days on top of the table only to miss out on the 2022-23 title to City. The North London side dropped points just twice in 2024, grinding out a draw at City and entering April in control of their own destiny. However, they would fall to a crushing 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa two weeks later, and City would take the advantage and narrowly hold onto it, eventually claiming the title on the final day of the campaign.

As opposed to Chelsea (+2000) and Liverpool (+700), who are entering new chapters with Enzo Maresca and Arne Slot at the helm, Arsenal are now approaching five years with Arteta manning the ship. They have made considerable strides since his appointment, returning to the UEFA Champions League after a six-year drought and going from back-to-back eighth-place finishes to back-to-back second-place finishes. They’ve restored their reputation and made themselves a worthy contender in our soccer predictions, but do they have what it takes to terminate City’s dominance once and for all and claim their first Premier League title in 21 years?

3. Can Leverkusen Build on Their Immaculate Campaign?

It has been nothing short of a phenomenal campaign in Germany’s premier division. Heidenheim qualified for Europe in their first-ever Bundesliga season, Stuttgart went from narrowly avoiding relegation to finishing second in the league, whilst Bayern Munich’s dynasty was finally toppled after 11 consecutive league titles. As for Bayer Leverkusen, they lost just one match in the entire campaign – the UEFA Europa League Final – and claimed their first-ever Bundesliga title as well as the DFB-Pokal.

The question is: can they show that they’re no mere one-hit wonder? So far, they’ve kept hold of manager Xabi Alonso, pulled off a double Rennes swoop with Martin Terrier and Jeanuel Belocian, and added one of the best midfielders in Spain in Girona’s Aleix Garcia. At +250, they may not be the favorites in our odds to win the Bundesliga title ahead of Vincent Kompany’s Bayern (-200), but I like their odds of pushing for a second title.
