The Kylian Mbappe Effect

Better Luck Next Time for Real Madrid

Show Me the Money!

Jerry Maguire isn’t Kylian Mbappe’s agent, but the 23-year-old striker still got to see the money. Mbappe will pick up at least $75 million in salary over the course of his new contract, which will expire in 2025.

He said money had nothing to do with his decision to stay in Paris, but looking at those numbers, that’s hard to believe.

The Kylian Mbappe Effect

Is Mbappe worth $25 million per season? That’s a tricky question because he has scored 171 goals in 217 appearances. Last season, he finished as Ligue 1’s top scorer with 28 goals. Metz, one of the relegated teams, scored 35 goals…in total. Based on that, the answer is yes.

The thing is that he hasn’t been able to lead PSG to the UEFA Champions League title. Winning the domestic title will never be enough for such a powerful team. And yes, soccer is a group effort, but there always has to be a leader.

Lionel Messi and Neymar could be that leader, the problem is that both are more focused on winning the World Cup. Besides, Mbappe already surpassed Neymar. Messi eats at a separate table, but the Frenchman sits close.

Based on that, the answer is no. He’s very young, and he’ll probably have a lot more chances, but winning the UCL is getting harder. Mbappe joined PSG in the 2017-18 season. Since then, they’ve lost in the Round of 16 three times. Last time it was against Real Madrid despite having a 2-0 lead.

Signing Mbappe had a lot of repercussions. First of all, no money to re-sign Angel Di Maria. He was one of the most regular players in the team. Second of all, head coach Mauricio Pochettino won’t return next season. Mbappe’s favorite candidate is no other than Zinedine Zidane, but signing the three-time UEFA Champions League winner, as a coach, isn’t easy.

Things don’t stop there. PSG was thinking about signing Aurelien Tchouameni from AS Monaco. Since Mbappe rejected Real Madrid, Tchouameni became Los Blancos’ main target. They signed him for the next six years.

La Liga sued PSG for failing to comply with financial fair play. Probably nothing will happen, but still, dealing with all that is tedious.

Regarding the Ligue 1, PSG is the huge betting online favorite to win the title at -1000. Take it, because midseason that price could include one more zero.

Last but not least, the pressure to win the UCL will be higher than ever. Right now, they’re offering a +550 price in the sportsbook. Only Manchester City (+275) and Liverpool (+450) are ahead. Anyway, all eyes will be on the Parisians. In the end, that’s what they want to achieve by signing Mbappe. Based on that, the answer returns to yes.
