Top Candidates to Put Up a Fight in French Cup
Last season, PSG lost the Ligue 1 title to Lille. The Parisians had to settle for the French Cup title, their fifth over the last six years. As expected, they come in as the huge soccer betting favorites to win it again, but it’s not a priority. Their main objective is to win the UEFA Champions League.
Let’s check which teams could pull off an upset in the event that ends on May 8, 2022. Rennes did it two years ago, so it’s not impossible.

Favorites to Win the French Cup
PSG (-165)
How could your team not be the favorite if it includes Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé? We’re talking about two of the best players in the world playing together. And don’t forget about Neymar, but the Brazilian is dealing with an ankle injury.
PSG is a good team, but it’s not invincible. They already lost one game in Ligue 1 and another one in the UCL. They could suffer another upset if they don’t take the cup seriously. Fortunately for them, their roster is so talented that no matter who plays, they’ll remain a strong side.
The road to the title isn’t short. PSG begins to play in the Round of 64.
Lyon (+1000)
Curiously enough, Lyon isn’t having a good Ligue 1 season. They sit in thirteenth place thanks to a 6-6-5 record. Winning the Cup is their best chance to redeem themselves. That’s why they come in as such a tempting betting online option.
We’re talking about a well-balanced team. Jérôme Boateng, who won pretty much everything with Bayern Munich, is leading the defense. Offensively, Moussa Dembélé is the one in charge. He has scored four goals in Ligue 1. Karl Toko Ekambi is also part of this team. He has been dealing with some injuries, but once he’s back, watch out.
Lyon last won the French Cup in the 2011-12 season.
Marseille (+1200)
Marseille is putting up a good fight in Ligue 1, but PSG is too good. They sit in second place, 13 points behind. Erasing that gap is pretty much impossible, so it’s better for them to focus on winning the cup. They haven’t won it since the 1988-89 season.
Since Jorge Sampaoli took over in March, Marseille has won 49 percent of its games and own a +15 goal differential. He led Chile to the Copa América title in 2015 and I believe he can do the same with Marseille.
To be honest, I would include Marseille in my soccer picks over Lyon.
Lille (+1400)
Lille isn’t having a good Ligue season either. The reigning champions sit in 11th place thanks to a 6-7-5 record. The thing is that you always have to pay some respect to the reigning champions, right?
Striker Jonathan David is another good reason to not underestimate them. The Canadian sits atop the Ligue 1 scoring chart with 11 goals, two more than Mbappe. He and Burak Yilmaz have become one of the best duos in the region.
Last season, they were eliminated by PSG in the Round of 16. They’re thirsty for revenge.
Dark Horses
When you’re an online gambling enthusiast, having a dark horse pick it’s always a good idea. In this case, I recommend Lens at +5000. Rennes at +1600 is also good, but it was too obvious. Regarding Ligue 1, Lens is sitting in sixth place and managed to draw 1-1 to PSG in their first meeting.
Last but not least, we also have AS Monaco at +1600. Offensively, they’ve nothing to envy the other powerhouses thanks to Wissam Ben Yedder and Kevin Volland. Last season, they lost the Grand Finale to PSG.
