USWNT Eliminated from Women’s World Cup
Ousted by Sweden on Penalty Kicks after Scoreless Tie
There will be no three-peat. There won’t be a quarterfinal appearance for the USWNT in the Women’s World Cup 2023.
The 2015 and ’19 World Champions lost Sweden on Sunday in the Knockout Round of 16.

Neither side scored a goal in the match, so it went to penalty kicks.
The Swedes won that, 5-4, and sent the USWNT home from Down Under.
The decisive kick went to VAR and it was found had crossed the goal line by a sliver.
After review, the penalty is good and Sweden wins 🇸🇪
