America, Leon Heavily Favored to Advance

Reigning Champions Cruz Azul Out of Liga MX Playoffs

We are down to eight teams in the Mexico Liga MX postseason, it will be four after the weekend. The first leg of the Round of 8 left two goalless draws and two victories by one goal. That means all teams still have a good chance to advance to the semifinals. It also means an upset is highly probable.

Let’s check the latest news, stats, injury reports, and soccer odds for the Liga MX Postseason Round of 8.

Mexico Liga MX Round 8 Betting Lines

Club America (-155) vs Pumas

When: Saturday, 8 p.m.

Club America finished the regular season in first place with 35 points (10-5-2), 21 goals for and 10 against. No other team allowed less goals while only two scored more. We’re talking about a well-balanced team. Four players scored three or more goals. And don’t forget about Guillermo Ochoa, one of the best goalkeepers in CONCACAF.

Pumas struggled a lot during the regular season but they eliminated Toluca, on the road, in the previous round. They also have a very experienced goalkeeper in Alfredo Talavera while Juan Ignacio Dinenno is their most dangerous striker.

The first leg ended 0-0. Pumas should have won after finishing with 14 shots (five on target), 11 more than America. They’re going to regret it because America are a totally different beast when playing at home. It’s going to be a back-and-forth battle, but las Aguilas will prevail.

Score Prediction: America 2, Pumas 1

Pick: Over 2½ goals (+110)

Atlas (+150) vs Monterrey

When: Saturday, 10:05 p.m.

Monterrey is the reason why the reigning champions are no longer in the race. In the previous round, they beat Cruz Azul 4-1 on the road, just like we predicted. Once again, they come in as the betting online underdogs, but I can assure they feel like the favorites.

Rayados own one of the best attacking units in the league. It includes Rogelio Funes Mori, Joel Campbell, Vincent Janssen and Maximiliano Meza. They’re definitely going to put up a fight.

Regarding Atlas, they finished the regular season in second place with 29 points, 21 goals for and 10 against. That’s right, we’ve one of the best attacking units against one of the best defensive units. Keep an eye on Julio Cesar Furch, the team’s top scorer with six goals.

The first leg also ended 0-0, but I don’t expect that to happen again. Both must go all-in. If you were looking for an upset, look no further, go with Monterrey.

Score Prediction: Monterrey 2, Atlas 1

Pick: Monterrey +220

UANL Tigres (-110) vs Santos Laguna

When: Sunday, 7 p.m.

The most even series according to the standings. Tigres finished the regular season in fourth place with 28 points, 26 goals for and 14 against. On the other hand, Santos finished in fifth place with 24 points, 23 goals for and 16 against.

Tigres didn’t have to play the previous round, but Santos did and had no trouble beating Atletico San Luis 2-0. They finished with a clean sheet in three of their last four games.

The first leg ended with a 2-1 victory for Santos. The home side took advantage of the first 15 minutes to score twice. Tigres dominated the rest of the game, but it wasn’t enough. The good thing, for them is that a 1-0 victory in the second leg would be enough. Their attacking unit, led by Andre-Pierre Gignac, is more than capable of scoring one goal. Be sure to include them in your soccer picks.

Score Prediction: Tigres 2, Santos 0

Pick: Tigres Over 1½ (+110)

Club Leon (-155) vs Puebla

When: Sunday, 9:05 p.m.

Club Leon deserves to be the favorites, but don’t sleep on Puebla. Leon started well in the first leg, but Puebla managed to turn things around and won 2-1. Any tie would be enough for them to advance.

Leon will take the reins right from the start while Puebla will rely on the counterattack. If there’s something you can expect from these two, it’s goals. Puebla scored two goals in three of their last four games. Leon scored at least one in four of their last five.

Don’t forget to check the props that our sportsbook is offering for this and other games to increase your winning chances. Take a shot on the correct score, half time/full time winner, first-goal time interval, and more!

Score Prediction: Leon 2, Puebla 1

Pick: Over 2½ goals (-115)
