Atalanta: Back to Winning Ways
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side ended their miserable three-match losing streak in the domestic league on Saturday with a strong away performance at Venezia resulting in a 3-1 victory. They are now sitting eighth in the standings just two points behind sixth-placed Lazio and four behind fifth-placed AS Roma but they have a game in hand on both teams and they are pushing for a strong season finish.
With the 2021-22 Serie A season now beginning to edge along toward its final weeks, there is a renewed focus on the mini battles at both ends of the table. The title race, the battle for Europe, and the relegation battle are all heating up. Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini still wants to get his hands on a place in the European competition next season, but his side has struggled in recent weeks.
Before beating Venezia, Atalanta has lost their last three consecutive Serie A games and bowed out of the Europa League against RB Leipzig. Despite not enjoying their best moment of the league campaign, Atalanta cannot afford to drop points against Torino. La Dea has suffered nine defeats in the league this season, and the last time they recorded more in a single campaign was four years ago, when they ultimately finished seventh.
Atalanta is expected to have a handful of absentees this midweek, as Remo Freuler and captain Rafael Toloi are major doubts, and Ruslan Malinovskyi who suffered a knee injury is also set to sit this one out. Luis Muriel is expected to join Duvan Zapata in the starting lineup after contributing to the scoresheet last weekend against Venezia. Given Atalanta’s ups and downs but also Torino’s good form it’s difficult to back a home win so we will avoid it. Instead, we’re focusing on the goals market for our soccer picks and parlays. Mario Pasalic has been a talisman for Atalanta this season. His playmaker role and goal-scoring will be required in the clash against Torino.
Torino: Rock-Solid at the Back
Still hoping for a first top-10 finish in three campaigns, Torino enters this clash on the back of a four-game unbeaten run. During this period they held AC Milan to a goalless draw to make the title race even more interesting. An improved defensive record has played its part, with only four goals conceded across their previous seven league games.
They are sitting 11th in the standings with 43 points earned in 33 games, three points behind 10th-placed Sassuolo. Going forward, Torino looks less effective, as evidenced in their defeat to a 10-man Genoa side, but nothing should be taken away from their performance over the last month.
Andrea Belotti went off injured against Lazio and it is unclear whether the Granata captain will return for the midweek fixture. Ivan Juric’s center-back shortage increased as Armando Izzo suffered a hamstring injury, joining Koffi Djidji on the sidelines. Dennis Praet, Mohamed Fares, and Simone Zaza are also out injured. In the absence of Belotti, Sanabria has to step up and lead the line for Torino.
If you are looking at the Serie A table, you would think Torino has nothing to play for but their main objective is to finish in the top half so we expect them to give their best and push for an upset. If you’re betting online you always understand the importance of the game for the two opponents.
Atalanta vs Torino Head-to-Head
This is the third time the two teams face each other this season with Sassuolo beating Juventus in the reverse fixture 2-1 on the road while Juventus knocked them out of the Italian Cup back in February. Both teams contributed to the scoresheet in the previous six mutual encounters between the two sides. The hosts have contributed on the scoreboard in eight of their last nine fixtures across all competitions while Juventus has kept just one clean sheet in their last five league games. Sassuolo won are unbeaten in their last four home games winning three and scoring at least twice in each match.

Atalanta vs Torino Predictions
The hosts enter this clash as heavy favorites being priced at -160 on the three-way moneyline according to the latest soccer odds while the goal line is set at 2½.
Ivan Juric’s side will approach their clash with Atalanta with optimism as they look to extend their good domestic run of form, which has seen them navigate four matches unbeaten. Given their scoring struggles and depleted squad they should continue with their defensive approach and try to keep Atalanta at bay.
With five matches remaining, Gasperini’s side will be motivated to finish as high as possible and return to European action. A win against Torino will see them leapfrog Fiorentina and Lazio and they are fully motivated but the odds for a home win have no value. We expect a cagey match and less than three goals on the scoresheet so we’re betting the unders.
