Real Madrid not only remain undefeated in La Liga, but also in the UEFA Champions League. In fact, Los Blancos have won all their games, with not even one draw. Sunday, their hot streak is in jeopardy at Wanda Metropolitano, where last season they suffered a heartbreaking loss.
As for Atletico Madrid, Los Colchoneros need to win in order to return to the top four in the standings, only defeat in La Liga was at home. That’s one of the reasons they come in as the betting online underdogs.
Atletico Madrid: Bad Road Trip
Atletico Madrid traveled to Germany to oppose Bayer Leverkusen in the UCL. It wasn’t good. Los Colchoneros fought, but ended by losing, 2-0. However, both goals were in the epilogue of the game and in a three-minute span.
Once again, Antoine Griezmann came off the bench to play the last 30 minutes, but unlike the game against Porto, it wasn’t sufficient. They need to work something out with Barcelona as soon as possible. He can’t keep playing like this.
Regarding La Liga, Diego Simeone’s team crushed Celta de Vigo, 4-1, last Saturday. Angel Correa, Rodrigo de Paul, Yannick Carrasco and Unai Nunez (own goal) were the scorers. Ironically, none of those players is a striker. It’s time to free Griezmann already. Even so, Los Colchoneros managed to win, despite Celta having 55 percent possession.
Los Colchoneros like to play on the counter. The problem is that not all teams are as vulnerable as Celta. As was mentioned before, they suffered a defeat at home, 2-0 against Villarreal. Where’s the solid Plan B when needed?
Home side comes in as the underdogs, offering a +175 price in the sportsbook. They haven’t had a loss in their last three home games against Real Madrid, so that’s very tempting.
Real Madrid: Will Karim Benzema Be Ready?
That’s the big question surrounding the reigning champs, and still has no answer. Karim Benzema already missed the matches against Mallorca and RB Leipzig, but Los Blancos haven’t lost hope of him being able to play this Sunday.
If no, manager Carlo Ancelotti will have to rely on Eden Hazard, Rodrygo or Marco Asensio. Hazard scored a goal against Celtic, the game in which Benzema was injured. Rodrygo was the Man of the Match against Mallorca (one goal and one assist).
…and last but not least, Asensio did score midweek against the Germans.
Real Madrid won both games without Benzema, 6-1 aggregate, but not so fast. Against Mallorca, they needed to turn things around in the last 15 minutes. Against Leipzig, Federico Valverde scored with only 10 minutes left on the clock. They’ve been winning, but don’t tell us they don’t miss Benzema.
Even without the Frenchman, Los Blancos deserve to be in control of the soccer odds at +160. They’re the reigning champ, no losses in their last six road games in all of the competitions, including last season’s final stretch.

So last season had two editions of El Derbi. First, Real Madrid won, 2-0, at home. Benzema did score the opener in the first half of play, while Asensio sealed it in the second half. Later, Atletico Madrid took revenge at Wanda Metropolitano, a 1-0 victory. Yannick Carrasco scored the lone goal from the penalty spot. It was intense (seven yellow cards assessed)
Even though these are two heavyweights, total has gone under in nine of their last 10.

Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid Prediction
Forget about recent results, this is a derby. Plus, as was aforementioned, matches between these two aren’t goalfests. Expect a close, back-and-forth battle. If Benzema played, Atletico Madrid would need a cautious defense. Regardless, Los Colchoneros should be able to snatch a point out of Los Blancos, which is precisely our soccer prediction.
Do not get us wrong, Real Madrid are a great team, but they’ve been a little luckier than usual. Leipzig did deserve a better result last Wednesday. That ends Sunday against a team that really doesn’t like them, and will go all-in at the outset.
Score Prediction: Atletico Madrid 1, Real Madrid 1
