First-Ever Meeting Between Sides in MLS
Near Best in West
Austin FC was founded in 2018 but didn’t start playing in MLS until the 2021 season. Even so, they’re already fighting at the top of the Western Conference. In fact, defeating the New York Red Bulls on Sunday could boost them up to the first place.
Speaking of the Red Bulls, they’re third in the Eastern Conference, only six points behind the team atop the standings, the Philadelphia Union. Curiously enough, the Red Bulls have won most of their points on the road, which makes them a tempting underdog to include in your soccer picks.

Austin FC = Scoring Machine
No other team in the league has scored more goals than Austin FC with 42. The Green Machine averages two goals per game.
Most recently, they drew 1-1 to FC Dallas, not bad considering it was on the road and they had to come from behind. Coming back allowed them to extend their unbeaten run to a club-record seven games. Of Austin’s 17 points in that run, eight have been won from losing positions. Los Verde’s 16 points from losing positions this season are the most in the league.
Diego Fagundez’s equalizer was his 13th goal contribution (five goals, eight assists). Previously, he has only been involved in more goals in three of his 12 MLS seasons.
Fagundez isn’t the only one having a great season. Sebastian Driussi, who was selected for the 2022 All-Star Game, is the team’s top scorer with 11 goals. There are also Maximiliano Urruti and Ethan Finlay, who have scored seven and four goals, respectively.
Austin FC has slightly favored on the soccer betting lines thanks to a +155 price. Keep in mind that they remain unbeaten against teams from the Eastern Conference (6-1-0).
Red Bulls Determine to Bounce Back
Losing a derby is always a tough blow. Well, that was what happened to the New York Red Bulls last Sunday against New York City FC. The Citizens won the Hudson River derby thanks to a goal scored by Valentin Castellanos, the league’s top scorer.
That also was the sixth time this season that the Red Bulls failed to score. Those games have been spread out, however, as New York hasn’t gone consecutive games without scoring under Gerhard Struber, last doing so in early September.
If the home side has Driussi and Fagundez, the visitors have Lewis Morgan and Luquinhas, who have scored nine and five goals, respectively. There’s also Patryk Klimala, who has scored four goals.
As mentioned before, the Red Bulls have considerably better on the road thanks to a 6-2-3 record. They scored in eight of those games and finished with a clean sheet three times. Plus, they may never have faced Austin, but they’ve plenty of experience playing in Texas with a 15-15-10 record.
That being said, the visitors are offering a +175 price in the sportsbook to win straight up. That means you could win $175 per every $100 wager on them.
