League A Group 1 Full of Surprises

Champs Against the Wall

The latest soccer odds find France favored to defeat Austria Friday in Matchday 3 of the UEFA Nations League. That doesn’t change the fact the reigning champs are winless here. Austria are an underdog that’s tempting.

Do not get us wrong. Les Bleus deserve to be the favorites, but if Karim Benzema and Kylian Mbappe don’t contribute, the match in Vienna could turn into a haunting nightmare.

Austria Inconsistent

Austria pulled off a Matchday 1 stunner, defeating Croatia, 3-0, on the road. Despite losing possession with 39 percent, they finished with eight shots on target, five more than Luka Modric and company. The crazy part is that Austria’s top players didn’t play.

The Boys then played host to Denmark, League A Group 1 top spot on the line. David Alaba, Christoph Baumgartner and Konrad Laimer, to name a few, returned to the rotation, Things didn’t go as expected, however. The Boys, who were offering a +175 price in the sportsbook, lost, 2-1. Jens Larsen scored the winning goal with only six minutes left.

So, which version of Austria plays against France? We’re sort of expecting a hybrid. There’s no way in you-know-where Marcel Sabitzer doesn’t start. The same goes for Kevin Danso and Marko Arnautovic.

Recently-appointed manager Ralf Rangnick is still figuring out some things, but there’s no doubt they’re a team with a lot of skill. That’s why, as previously mentioned, Austria at +360 is a very tempting deal. They defeated Croatia while priced at +260.

Les Bleus Feeling Blue

One would think that a team with Benzema, Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, Christopher Nkunku, Aurelien Tchouameni and Presnel Kimpembe would never lose. Well, that’s the beauty of sports, because France opened the tournament with a 2-1 setback against Denmark.

Benzema opened the can five minutes into the second half. Later, Andreas Cornelius dressed as Superman, saving the day with two goals in a 20-minute span. It was France’s first home loss in their last dozen games.

Les Bleus then drew, 1-1, to Croatia. That wasn’t necessarily a bad result, considering the game was on the road and manager Didier Deschamps made several changes. Benzema, Mbappe, Ibrahima Konate, Kingsley Coman and Theo Hernandez didn’t play. In other words, France has skill to spare and all are well-rested to oppose Austria.

Of late, Les Bleus have been an even more productive soccer pick when playing on the road. They haven’t lost in their last 15 away games. That’s not all, as they’ve scored in each match. They’ve finished with a clean sheet eight times, and last, but not least, victories over other powerhouses, including Portugal, Belgium and Spain.

The visitors have been the favorites in all their games, and this time is no exception, priced ar -125. It’s not Very far off their -200 price against the Danes.

Austria vs France Prediction

The UNL is a friendly tournament, that’s true. France can’t afford to remain winless, though. They’re the reigning World Champions; so they’re bound to always give their best.

It was a very long season for some of the marque players on the roster, starting with Benzema. That’s why Deschamps made a wise decision resting him against Croatia. With Benzema (27 goals in La Liga) and Mbappe (28 goals in Ligue 1) back at it, Les Bleus shouldn’t have too much trouble defeating Austria  However, the Boys figure to score as well. Therefore, our betting online advice is to go with the over.

Score Prediction: France 3, Austria 1
