Last season, Barcelona didn’t win anything, not even the Copa del Rey. That sparked a revolution, led by President Joan Laporta, who spared no expense to build a Dream Team. The only problem is that Los Azulgranas have had some trouble registering their new players, something they hope to solve before the matchup against Rayo Vallecano.
Speaking of Rayo Vallecano, last season Los Franjirrojos defeated Barca twice, making them a very tempting soccer betting underdog for Matchday 1. Especially at +1300.
Barcelona: Let the Show begin!
Last season, Los Azulgranas didn’t win anything, but they managed to finish as the runners-up in La Liga. Believe me, after the awful start they had, that was a great achievement. Replacing manager Ronald Koeman with Xavi Hernandez was crucial to do so.
Hernandez is back and now he has a well-balanced team. Therefore, expectations around Barcelona are extremely high. In fact, Alex Campean chose them to dethrone Real Madrid. After all, they signed Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Jules Kounde, Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen. As if that wasn’t enough, rumor has it that they could still sign Bernardo Silva from Manchester City.
Los Azulgranas had a wonderful preseason, finishing with a 4-2-0 record. That includes defeating Real Madrid 1-0. Most recently, they crushed Pumas 6-0 to win the Joan Gamper trophy. Pedri led the way with two goals; Lewandowski, Ousmane Dembele, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Frenkie de Jong also scored.
Nine different players strike for Barca during the preseason, with Dembele topping the list with five goals. Having Ansu Fati, Aubameyang, Kessie, Miralem Pjanic and Eric Garcia is a luxury. I didn’t mention Memphis Depay because he’s expected to leave. Chelsea and Juventus are very interested.
All of the above makes Barca worthy of a -525 price in the sportsbook.
Rayo Vallecano: Not an Easy Prey
Last season, Rayo Vallecano finished twelfth in La Liga. However, Los Franjirrojos were in the top seven for much of the tourney. They also put up a good fight in the Copa del Rey, reaching the Semifinals, in which they lost 3-2 to Real Betis.
Alvaro Garcia and Radamel Falcao are the main reasons for you to consider including the visitors in your soccer picks. Garcia scored eight goals in all competitions, while Falcao scored six. Only Sergi Guardiola scored more with 10, but he returned to Real Valladolid.
To replace Guardiola, Rayo brought in Sergio Camello on a loan from Atletico Madrid. He’s 21 years old, but last season scored 15 goals in 37 games for C.D. Mirandes. Los Franjirrojos also signed midfielder Salvi Sanchez, goalkeeper Diego Lopez and defender Florian Lejeune. In other words, they’ll try to remain a balanced team.
The thing with Rayo, at least last season, is that they only won three games on the road (3-4-12). If they want to fight for a spot in the UEFA Conference League (seventh place) that needs to change.
Los Franjirrojos are offering a +1300 price to win straight up. That means you could turn $100 into a $1400 payout. That’s if they pull off the stunner.

Barcelona vs Rayo Vallecano Prediction
Since the 2000-01 season, Barcelona won the La Liga title 10 times. Real Madrid won it eight times. For the 2022-23 season, both remain the betting online favorites at -800 and -1000. To be honest, I think Barca should also be offering a -1000 price.
Los Azulgranas attacking unit is simply insane. Lewandowski already scored, so the pressure is gone. Raphinha and Dembele had a wonderful preseason, and Aubameyang is eager to prove he can be better than Lewandowski. In other words, Barcelona should have no trouble scoring more than 2½ goals against Rayo Vallecano at home. Consequently, you can also expect the game total (3) to go over, just like it happened in seven of their last 10 meetings.
Score Prediction: Barcelona 3, Rayo Vallecano 1
