The Spanish top-flight league has reached its final round with Barcelona and Villarreal going head to head at Camp Nou in a La Liga game. You can live-bet on the top European soccer leagues by using our sportsbook.
Barcelona: Preparing for Next Season
FC Barcelona end their La Liga campaign with nice wins and five draws away from home since the former Blaugrana, Xavi, took over as coach. Their final fixture on the road saw them pick up a goalless draw against Getafe at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez and a point that guaranteed runners-up spot in La Liga and a place in next season’s Champions League. Xavi Hernandez became the third coach to go unbeaten in at least 10 games in a league season away from home.
It should come as no surprise that FC Barcelona’s midfield has hugely improved under his guidance. After all, the club’s second all-time appearances leader was one of the greatest technicians to ever play in the middle of the pitch. Barca is better all over the pitch under the Spanish legend, but Xavi has evidently raised the performances of Frenkie de Jong and Pedri, who are now guaranteed starters in front of pivot captain Sergio Busquets.
The summer transfer window will bring many players to the club but will also see some others leave Barcelona. Hernandez wants to bring in as many as seven players. Of the seven, two deals are already in place, with Barcelona set to reinforce their defense and midfield with the signings of Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie. In addition to these two, Xavi is seeking a world-class striker, with Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich emerging as the top priority.
With Barcelona having nothing to play for, this is the perfect time for us to fade them and avoid including them in our soccer picks and parlays.
Villarreal: Conference League
We know the Yellow Submarine will not be playing in the Europa League next season following their costly collapse against Real Sociedad over the weekend. A home defeat to La Real leaves Villarreal in seventh place, and that is not guaranteed. Villarreal must achieve a result against Barcelona at Camp Nou that betters that of Bilbao’s away to Sevilla to guarantee Conference League football. If they fail to manage that, they will miss out on European football altogether next season.
The absence of the Europa League feels like a bitter blow for Villarreal, who won the competition last season and reached the final four of the Champions League this season. If they finish seventh they will play in the Conference League and (you heard it here first) we expect them to go all the way and lift the trophy next season.
Missing a top-six finish is definitely Unai Emery’s fault because he prioritized the Champions League action fighting with Europe’s giants for a place in the final and risking the domestic league. No matter what happens on Sunday, Villarreal should celebrate their amazing UCL run and their fantastic wins against Juventus and Bayern Munich.
Villarreal was without key attacking duo Gerard Moreno and Arnaut Danjuma for the Real Sociedad clash, and they could both miss out on Sunday, with Paco Alcacer again set to start upfront in their absence. Samu Chukwueze and Giovani Lo Celso again set to support the lone striker. No doubt there’s huge value on Villarreal to return home with at least one point so if you’re soccer betting you should look into this.
Barcelona vs Villarreal Head-to-Head
Barcelona has an outstanding head-to-head record against Villarreal. They are unbeaten since 2008 across all competitions and they won nine of their previous ten mutual encounters against the Yellow Submarine including a 3-1 victory in the reverse fixture. We’ve seen at least three goals on the scoresheet in seven of the last eight games between the two sides with both teams contributing on the scoreboard in five of the last six. Barcelona has dropped points in six of their 18 home games this term scoring 37 goals in the process while Villarreal is not regarded as a good traveler winning just five of their 18 road games during their domestic campaign.

Barcelona vs Villarreal Betting Lines
Barcelona vs Villarreal Predictions
As expected, the hosts enter this clash as favorites being priced at +140 on the three-way money line according to the latest soccer odds while the goal line is set at 3½.
We always love betting on the goals market but even for our tastes the line is set too high and we don’t expect so many goals in this match. Yes, the stats are backing goals and they are backing also a home win. But, given the circumstances, this clash should be closer than the odds suggest.
Normally, Barcelona should be priced at -120 but because they have nothing to play for we have them at +140. We don’t expect them to go into the second gear and force a win. Villarreal has everything to fight for as their European season is on the line. They should have enough to return home with at least one point but for our official pick, we will stay with the unders.
