As for Augsburg, the White and Reds played host to Freiburg and were humiliated. That wasn’t expected. Now, they must defeat Leverkusen for the first time ever — at least if they don’t want to fall into the abyss.

Augsburg: Navigating Troubled Waters
Augsburg arrived at the Bundesliga in the 2011-12 season. Three seasons later, they finished fifth. Since then, the White and Reds haven’t been able to finish in the top 10. Last season, they finished 14th, only five points ahead of Hertha Berlin, the last team to get relegated.
Nobody is expecting Augsburg to make a run for the title or anything like it, but they shouldn’t suffer so much either. Last week, they lost 4-0 to Freiburg. The defense collapsed after the first half and allowed all four goals in the second.
“Unfortunately, the game did not go as we would have wanted it to. We had a couple of positives in the first half, including limiting Freiburg’s chances. The second half was frustrating, as we conceded easily – we’ve analyzed this and now we’re working on it so that we can play better in Leverkusen,” said midfielder Elvis Rexhbecaj in an interview.
Rexhbecaj is one of Augsburg’s most recent signings. The White and Reds also signed Arne Maier, Ermedin Demirovic and Maximilian Bauer. Summing up, we’re talking about an experienced, well-balanced team.
