Shorthanded Leverkusen Stumbling to the Finish Line

Despite having multiple starters out due to injury, Bayer Leverkusen thrashed Greuther Furth 4-1 last weekend. It was a much-needed bounce back after getting shut out in their last two matches. Leverkusen came in as 1½-goal favorites and comfortably covered the spread.

Leading assist man Florian Wirtz is out for the season and so is young forward Amine Adli. Starting defender Jeremie Frimpong and midfielder Karim Bellarabi are also among those out. At just three points ahead of fifth-place Freiburg, Leverkusen still needs a pair of wins to clinch a Champions League berth for next season.

After hosting Eintracht Frankfurt, Leverkusen’s last matches are at Hoffenheim and vs. Freiburg. It’s not exactly an easy end to the season and their UCL bid could come down to the last match of the season.

Europa League Last Hope for Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt has been one of the more disappointing Bundesliga soccer picks as of late and they are winless in their last five Bundesliga matches. They’ve failed to cover the spread in their last four matches and drew 2-2 at home vs. Hoffenheim last weekend in a pick’em.

In spite of their poor form in the Bundesliga, they have one foot in the Europa League final. The first leg of the semi-final at West Ham could have gone either way. The Hammers hit the woodwork multiple times, but Frankfurt secured a 2-1 win with goals from Ansgar Knauff and Daichi Kamada.

Rafael Borre sent in the cross that Knauff finished vs. West Ham but the Colombian striker will be out for this match. Borre is serving a one-game suspension and is Frankfurt’s leading scorer in the Bundesliga, with seven goals. Frankfurt’s attack should take a hit and most of their focus will be on defeating West Ham next Thursday.

Leverkusen vs Frankfurt Head-to-Head

Eintracht Frankfurt picked up a 5-2 home win over Bayer Leverkusen earlier this season as +215 underdogs. Five different players got on the scoresheet as Frankfurt picked up their fourth home win in a row over Leverkusen.

Leverkusen are unbeaten in their last eight home matches vs. Frankfurt with their last loss coming in 2013. Bayer has the slight edge for soccer betting over the last ten meetings, with a 6-4 series lead.

Leverkusen vs Frankfurt Prediction

Bayer Leverkusen are one-goal favorites for Monday’s match and bettors seem to favor them as they’re priced at -150. However, they’re 0-2-1 in their last three matches vs. teams in the top half. Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt hasn’t lost by a multi-goal margin since February.

The online gambling odds have Frankfurt as heavy underdogs, at +550, which makes sense given they’ve only won three of their 14 Bundesliga matches this season. A draw is also seen as unlikely at +400 and a Leverkusen win has a nearly 70 percent implied probability at -225. Leverkusen has won three of their last five matches and has conceded just three goals in that span.

Monday’s O/U goal total is set at 3 and the last nine meetings between these two teams have finished with three goals or more, however, there are attacking talents on both sides who’ll be out due to injury or suspension. Note that Frankfurt has conceded in their last six matches in all competitions.

This is certainly a game that Leverkusen needs to win in their bid to secure a UCL berth and they should do so, especially with Borre out. Frankfurt are prone to conceding and to get better odds on a Leverkusen win, look to the props. Go with Leverkusen and Total Over 2½ at -125.

Pick: Leverkusen and Total Over 2½ (-125)
