Bayern Rules Bundesliga | Picks, odds & Predictions

Borussia Dortmund Giving Chase as Race for Top Four Heats Up

The holiday season has come to a close, which means the transfer window is open and the Bundesliga is back from its three-week break.

It’s been another year of Bayern Munich dominance but there’s still a lot to be determined in the second half. Bayern hold a nine-point lead midway through the season and could still be caught.

The Champions League places are very much up for grabs in a wide-open top half of the table. There’ll be plenty of good opportunities for soccer betting and we’ll cover all of them here at BetUS.

German Bundesliga Breakdown

Bayern Munich Dominating, as Usual

Bayern Munich topped the list of our midseason highs and took a five-game win streak into the break. The Bavarians hold a nine-point lead over second-place Borussia Dortmund and are looking for a 10th consecutive title.

At -5000 to win the league, they’re expected to retain their lead and have been one of the soccer picks of the season. In their last two Bundesliga matches Bayern have outscored opponents 9-0. Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry have both scored three goals apiece in that span and spearhead a dangerous attack.

Bayern faces Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday. The Bavarians are two-goal home favorites vs a side that demolished them 5-0 in the DFB Pokal. Bayern will be out for revenge and should extend their win streak to six matches.

Race for Champions League Heating Up

Perhaps the most interesting development of the Bundesliga season is the race for the top four. Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are widely expected to qualify for the Champions League, at -200000 and -15000, respectively.

With Erling Haaland back from injury, Dortmund will hope to shake off a loss to Hertha when they head to sixth-place Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. Dortmund has odds of -105 to win on the road and look a decent pick for betting online.

Outside of Bayern and Dortmund, no fewer than eight teams are within striking distance of the final two qualifying slots. SC Freiburg, one of the biggest surprises of the season, and Bayer Leverkusen currently occupy third and fourth place.

Freiburg holds just a seven-point lead over 10th-place Leipzig, meaning things may look a lot different come May. For now, Freiburg could continue to linger around and plays host to Arminia Bielefeld in a match that they’re expected to win.

Bayer Leverkusen fell to Freiburg in their last match and is winless in its last three matches. Golden boot candidate Patrik Schick had eight goals in the three preceding matches before the loss. He’ll hope to get back on the scoresheet vs a tough Union Berlin side on Saturday. Leverkusen is slightly favored, at -120.

Fifth-place Hoffenheim will put its six-game unbeaten run on the line vs an Augsburg team that beat Bayern earlier in the season. Hoffenheim has failed to keep a clean sheet in its last five matches but is -180 home favorites.

Even Wolfsburg, losers of their last five matches, are just eight points outside of fourth. Wolfsburg, last year’s fourth-place finisher, has similar odds to get relegated (+2500) as they do to make the top four (+2200).

Golden Boot Race

The Golden Boot Race looks to be a three-man contest. Robert Lewandowski, the overwhelming favorite at -1400, leads the league with 19 goals and figures to score 30 goals for a third straight campaign.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Schick has scored 16 goals and leads the Bundesliga in goals per minute. He’s the focal point of a Leverkusen side that has only been outscored by Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. If Lewandowski is unable to stay healthy, Schick is a great pick at +1000.

Speaking of Dortmund, Haaland recently said “My next six months will be my best six months.” At +1200 in the sportsbook to win the Golden Boot, the Norwegian presents good value. Haaland, who has 13 goals, is auditioning for his next team as much as he’s playing for Dortmund.
