Far From Meeting Expectations
Believe it or not, Bayern Munich are fifth in the Bundesliga. The reigning champs are five points behind FC Union Berlin, the surprising and undefeated leader. As for Bayer Leverkusen, the Black and Reds are even worse. They sit in 15th place, 12 points behind first.
In other words, both are in a must-win situation, making Friday’s matchup even more interesting. As expected, the home side comes in as the betting online favorites, but last season they couldn’t defeat Leverkusen at home. And that was without any pressure.
Bayern Munich: Missing Lewandowski
Bayern Munich started the season on the right foot with three straight victories. The defending champions defeated Frankfurt, Wolfsburg and Bochum by a 15-1 aggregate. Sadio Mane scored three goals, which led the fans and the press (me included) to think that Bayern didn’t need Robert Lewandowski.
Well, we were terribly wrong. After those three games, they haven’t been able to win and their average dropped to 1.2 goals per game. Most recently, they lost 1-0 to Augsburg, a team whose record is 3-0-4 and has allowed 10 goals.
Curiously enough, things have been a bit different in the UEFA Champions League. The German side visited Inter Milan and won 2-0. Later, they played host to Barcelona and won 2-0 as well. Leroy Sane scored in both games.
That’s just a reminder that we’re still talking about a European powerhouse. Yes, they missed Lewandowski, but their roster is still very talented. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Thomas Muller are expected to start scoring in order to replace Lewandowski’s production.
Plus, if they weren’t an extremely talented team, they wouldn’t be offering a -285 price in the sportsbook.
Bayer Leverkusen: Missing Schick
No, he didn’t leave, but Patrik Schick has only scored two goals. Prior to the start of the season, he was among the favorites to win the Golden Boot, so yes, that’s a bit disappointing. Overall, Bayer Leverkusen have scored nine goals. On the other hand, FC Union Berlin has scored 15 and Bayern Munich 19.
Bayer Leverkusen are currently sitting in 15th place with only five points. Most recently, they played host to Werder Bremen and drew 1-1. They won possession with 54 percent and took seven shorts on target but weren’t effective.
Like Bayern, the Black and Reds are also competing in the UCL, and guess what? They managed to defeat Atletico Madrid 2-0. Robert Andrich and Moussa Diaby were the scorers. That’s also a reminder that we’re talking about a tempting soccer betting underdog, especially at +575.
Domestically, they’re 1-1-0 in their last two road games. They defeated Mainz 05 3-0 despite playing the last 15 minutes with one player less and drew 2-2 to Hertha Berlin.

Last season, Bayer Leverkusen managed to get a point at Allianz Arena. Niklas Sule scored the opener for Bayern Munich at 18 minutes, but the Black and Reds evened the score prior to the end of the first half thanks to an own-goal scored by Muller.
Things were completely different when they collided at BayArena. Led by Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry, who scored a brace each, Bayern won 5-1. All five goals were scored in the first half while Schick scored for the home side in the second.
If there’s something you can expect from these two, it’s goals. The total has gone over in eight of their last 10 encounters.

Bayern Munich vs Bayer Leverkusen Prediction
Forget about an upset. Bayern Munich will have one more advantage, and it’s that several players weren’t called up for the UEFA Nations League matches, including Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzka, meaning they’ll be well-rested and eager to bounce back. Bayer Leverkusen will put up some resistance. After all, losing could send them to the relegation zone, but it won’t be enough. They’ll contribute for the total to go over 3½ goals, though, precisely our recommendation for you to include in your soccer picks.
Score Prediction: Bayern Munich 3, Bayer Leverkusen 1
