Bayern: Powerful on Home Soil

Bayern Munich’s route to the Champions League semi-final was supposed to be an easy task when the quarter-final draw was made. Instead, the Bavarian Giants lost the 1st leg in Spain being very lucky not to concede more than one goal. The Germans were kept quiet for most of the match and rarely managed to threaten Villarreal’s goal.

Bayern netted 20 goals in four Champions League games at home this season and it looks like a similar fate awaits the Yellow Submarines. Unfortunately, history is not on their side. The last time they managed to qualify in the UCL knock-out stages after losing the 1st leg was back in 2015 and ironically, their four exits after first-leg defeats since then have all come against Spanish sides.

The hosts produced an equally poor performance in Austria in the first leg of their UCL Round of 16, needing a last-minute goal to avoid defeat against Salzburg but they destroyed them 7-1 on home soil. Ahead of this important Champions League quarter-final, second-leg clash Bayern is missing Corentin Tolisso who is recovering from a hamstring injury. Elsewhere there are doubts over the availability of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Bouna Sarr.

Leon Goretzka came off injured in the first leg but was fine to play 60 minutes at the weekend, while Kingsley Coman can also expect a recall to the starting lineup after sharing the minutes with Serge Gnabry in the short 1-0 against Augsburg.

Of course, Bayern Munich is the heavy favorite to win this clash but we don’t recommend you include them in your soccer picks and parlays because there’s no value in doing so.

Villarreal: Surprise Package

Villarreal boss Unai Emery said his team played an almost perfect game in the 1-0 win against Bayern Munich but was very disappointed not to have a bigger lead after missing some golden opportunities. Ex-Bournemouth player Arnaut Danjuma scored the only goal of a contest where the Spaniards had numerous chances to increase their advantage but failed to convert them into goals.

Liverpool has reportedly opened talks with the agent of Villarreal star Arnaut Danjuma with the Netherlands winger seemingly emerging as the Reds’ No 1 summer transfer target. The Yellow Submarine reached the UCL quarterfinals for the first time since 2009. They shocked Juventus in the previous round beating them 3-0 on the road and they will try to pull off another huge upset on Tuesday.

For a side in seventh place in La Liga, Unai Emery’s men have consistently punched above their weight in this competition. As expected, Emery rested many of his key players last weekend, being kept to a 1-1 draw by Bilbao in the Spanish La Liga. Their only chance to play in the Champions League next season is to win the competition. We don’t expect them to go all the way, but they will give everything on German soil.

Danjuma, Moreno, Giovani Lo Celso, Dani Parejo, and Raul Albiol are all among those who will return for the Allianz trip, and the only enforced change that Emery had to make at the weekend was due to Pau Torres’s domestic suspension, with the center-back, being fine to return for Europe. Bayern will probably win this clash. If you’re soccer betting you should consider all the markets and never play odds under -130.

Bayern vs Villarreal Head-to-Heads

The two sides have played just once before this quarter-final tie, back in the 2011/12 group phase. The German Giants won both legs 2-0 on the road and 3-1 in Munich. The hosts have an amazing record against the Spanish opposition having won 20 of their 30 mutual encounters, losing just four in the process. Villarreal has won just two games on the road against German opposition.

Bayern vs Villarreal Betting Lines

Bayern vs Predictions

The hosts are huge favorites to win the 2nd leg being priced at -400 on the three-way moneyline according to the latest soccer odds while the goal line is set at 3½.

Villarreal has had a fantastic run this season in the European competitions, but it’s hard to see anything other than Bayern cruising through here as they did in the previous round. Villarreal has scored 11 goals from four road matches against high scoring teams and we expect them to do it again in Germany. Defense remains a problem for Bayern and this has been the case throughout the season across all competitions.

A look at Villarreal’s road form would suggest that going over 3½ goals is a crazy bet, however, Bayern has delivered over 3½ goals in half of their last 10 home matches with a game average of 3.8 goals. They must attack from the 1st minute of the game and risk it all because they have no other option than win this match by at least two goals.

Pick: Both teams to score and over 2½ at +100
