No Lionel Messi, no party. Inter Miami is on the verge of elimination from the MLS playoffs. Even if the Argentinian superstar returns to action this Saturday, Miami no longer depends on itself to make it. That doesn’t mean the match against FC Cincinnati, for which they come in as the MLS betting favorites, won’t be interesting, quite the opposite.
Inter Miami Averaging One Goal Less Without Messi
Midweek, Inter Miami visited the Chicago Fire and lost 4-1. We all know Messi is the GOAT, but come on, at least put up a better fight when the guy isn’t playing. Miami won possession with 64%, but besides losing, they finished with only two shots on target, five less than the Fire.
Without Messi, Inter Miami is averaging 1.16 goals per game. When he plays, the Herons are used to scoring 2.83 goals per game. Need more? They scored multiple goals in 10 of the 12 games Messi played compared to 12 of the 32 in which he hasn’t.
Head coach Gerardo Martino said there’s a possibility that Messi plays on Saturday, but he can’t say otherwise or tickets wouldn’t sell like crazy. If he can’t play, Miami will have to rely on Josef Martinez and Leonardo Campana once again. If that’s the case, you should include Martinez in your MLS betting ticket as anytime goalscorer. Besides being a better player, he’s in charge of taking penalties.
FC Cincinnati Has Nothing to Lose
Unlike Inter Miami, FC Cincinnati already secured a spot in the MLS playoffs and has nothing to lose. That’s why they come in as the underdogs in the MLS odds. But don’t underestimate them. The possibility of leaving Miami out of the postseason should be motivation enough to take this match seriously.
Most recently, Cincinnati lost 2-1 to the New York Red Bulls. However, they’re unbeaten in their last four games on the road. And guess who they beat in their last match away from home? The Chicago Fire, the team that destroyed Miami on Wednesday.
Individually, Luciano Acosta is the main reason to consider including the visitors in your soccer picks. Things are looking good for Acosta in the Golden Boot race; he has scored 16 goals. Only Denis Bouanga from Los Angeles FC has scored more with 17. That means Acosta will play no matter what.

Inter Miami Winless in Last Four Meetings
After winning each of the first four meetings between the two, Inter Miami is winless in its last four encounters with FC Cincinnati. However, keep in mind that Miami has never lost to Cincinnati at home. That’s another reason for them to be the betting online favorites despite being 14th in the Eastern Conference.
Their last MLS meeting in Miami finished 4-4. Call me crazy, but I expect a similar outcome on Saturday.

Inter Miami vs FC Cincinnati Betting Predictions
Enough is enough. Midweek, I gave Inter Miami the benefit of the doubt, but no more, even if Messi plays. They’ll face the best team in the league, which is eager to put an end to Messimania and leave them out of the postseason. A draw would be enough to do that, precisely my recommendation.
