Best Soccer Bets Today: Pioli’s Milan Finds Its Groove

It has been two months since AC Milan prevailed with a comeback 3-1 win at Newcastle in the UEFA Champions League group stage, avoiding an early European exit and booking their ticket for the Europa League knockout round. The Rossoneri followed that up by thrashing Monza 3-0 and drawing 2-2 at Salernitana before closing out 2023 with a 1-0 win against Sassuolo. Since that victory, Milan has won all but two of their eight matches in the new year: a 2-1 defeat to Atalanta in the Coppa Italia and a 2-2 draw to Bologna. So, there’s more than enough reason to include a Milan win in your soccer betting predictions.

After coming away with a 3-2 victory at Frosinone, Milan secured a 1-0 victory against Napoli and will be looking to come away with their third win on the bounce as they host Rennes in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League encounter on Thursday, before traveling to the Stadio Brianteo to face Monza.

Having finished 11th in their first-ever Serie A campaign last season, Monza sits 11th in the table again, 11 points above the drop and 22 behind third-placed Milan. But whereas last season saw them beat the likes of Napoli, Inter, and Juventus, Monza has struggled against Italy’s top sides this season.

Apart from a goalless draw vs. Bologna in September, Monza has lost each of their seven fixtures against Italy’s top seven sides. We’re backing that trend to continue on Sunday, and we’ll include AC Milan in our soccer picks and parlays this weekend.

Monza vs AC Milan Betting Pick: AC Milan (-116)

Monza Attack Underperforming

Whilst Raffaele Palladino’s side has taken care of things at the back with just 28 goals conceded in 24 matches, Monza’s anemic attack has been a cause of concern: only Empoli (18) and Salernitana (20) have scored fewer than Monza (21). Take away their 3-2 win at Frosinone, and they’ve found the back of the net on just two occasions in their last eight matches, one of those coming in a 5-1 loss to Inter on Jan. 13. In contrast, Milan has scored 47 goals in 24 matches, a rate bettered only by Inter (55 in 23), and our soccer odds are in the Rossoneri’s favor as they look to come away with their 17th league win in 25 matches.

Having won each of their previous three matches against Monza, scoring eight and conceding just once, it should come as no surprise that our sportsbook is backing them to win at -116 in contrast to Monza (+321). Whilst Monza enters the match on the back of two straight goalless draws, Milan finds itself in scintillating form after taking 19 points from a potential 21.

AC Milan will be liking their chances of securing their 10th clean sheet of the Serie A campaign, and they should have more than enough ammunition to not only win but score 2+ goals for the fifth time in their last six league matches. If you’re planning to bet on Serie A soccer this weekend, bet on Milan coming away with a high-scoring victory here.
