Hosts Have Nothing to Play for but Pride

Valencia will visit Real Betis on Sunday evening, knowing a victory would guarantee their status in Spain’s top flight for another season. Our sportsbook offers the best markets and bonuses in La Liga.

Betis: Sixth Place Locked

Real Betis has now claimed a top-six finish in La Liga in the last three seasons, and it has been another productive campaign for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, who will again compete in the Europa League next term.

A total of 59 points picked up in 37 games has left them in sixth position, four points behind Villarreal and nine clear of Osasuna in seventh. Earlier this year, the possibility of a top-four spot opened up, but they ultimately fell short, sitting nine points off fourth-placed Real Sociedad.

However, the hosts can be pleased with their domestic campaign and have been in strong form over the last month, winning three of their last five matches, suffering only one defeat. They will enter this clash on the back of a 2-1 victory at Girona last weekend, with Borja Iglesias’s second-half brace securing all three points.

Iglesias is sitting fourth in the league’s top scorers chart with 15 goals, and we expect him to lead the attacking line on Sunday and once again find the back of the net against Valencia, so we will include him in our La Liga picks and parlays. Having scored first-half goals in Betis’ last two home league wins, boss Manuel Pellegrini will be keen to see Ayoze Perez on the scoresheet again. The hosts will be without Nabil Fekir through injury, but the squad is otherwise in good shape, with German Pezzella available again following a suspension.

Valencia: Fighting for Survival

Valencia would be safe with a victory on Sunday. But a defeat will make them extremely vulnerable and open up the prospect of finishing in the 18th spot and getting relegated to La Liga 2. There is no getting away from the fact that it has been a hugely disappointing campaign for Valencia, who has not played outside of Spain’s top flight since the 1986-87 season, and it would be a disaster if they get relegated.

Espanyol and Elche have already been relegated to the Segunda Division, while 18th place is currently occupied by Real Valladolid. Celta Vigo, Almeria, Getafe, and Cadiz are also all involved in the relegation battle heading into a fascinating final round, with all eyes on the bottom of the division.

Valencia scored a last-gasp equalizer against Espanyol at Mestalla last time out to claim a crucial point and relegate their opponents. They will now look to record just their fourth away league victory of the campaign to confirm their top-flight status, but if you’re betting online, you shouldn’t expect them to return home with all three points. Valencia will again be missing Marcos de Sousa due to a knee injury, but head coach Ruben Baraja has a strong squad to choose from.

Real Betis vs Valencia Head-to-Head

Europa League football awaits Betis for the third successive season, with the club getting the chance to better their Round of 16 exits of this season and the campaign prior. Piecing together a solid five-match run with three wins in the final stages of the domestic campaign helped them secure their spot in Europe.

However, just four wins from their last 13 La Liga home games marks a pretty unremarkable run in which Betis failed to score on seven occasions.

Valencia is in danger of finishing lower than 13th in LL for the first time since 1985-86. The visitors lost 12 of their 18 road games this season, conceding 25 goals.

Real Betis vs Valencia Picks and Prediction

The visitors enter this clash as slight favorites, priced at +140 on the three-way moneyline according to the latest La Liga odds, while the goal line is set at 2½.

Valencia’s last away victory over Real Betis was in April 2019, and it is difficult to back them to win this match, having only claimed three victories on their travels this term. A point could be enough to keep them in the top flight, and we are expecting the spoils to be shared here. We expect Betis to give their fans something to cheer for and finish the season with a positive result.
