Bilbao: Fighting for the European spots

The Basque outfit is currently eighth in the table one point behind sixth-placed Villarreal and five points behind sixth-placed Real Sociedad. Bilbao has lost one of their last six in La Liga, recording three wins in the process, including back-to-back victories over Cadiz and Atletico in their last two contests at this level of football. They’ve shown their caliber during this current campaign of La Liga, even though they have failed to consistently keep this strong level.

A top-seven finish is mandatory for any Spanish team to take part in European competitions in the upcoming season and in order to achieve that, Bilbao must leapfrog Villarreal in the standings. We expect them to maintain their strong form for the remainder of the campaign, especially since they do not have anything to lose, and everything to gain.

The hosts have not finished higher than seventh in their domestic league since finishing fifth in the 2015/16 campaign, while they are on course to improve on last season’s 10th-place finish in La Liga. They will be without Oihan Sancet and Asier Villalibre this weekend through injury with the home side expected to use the same starting lineup as the one they managed to beat Atletico Madrid last weekend 2-0 on home soil. Even though Valencia got the best of Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey semi-finals, Bilbao is looking great in great in recent weeks and we will include them in our soccer picks and parlays.

Valencia: Finishing Out the Schedule

Valencia’s main objective was to win the Spanish Cup and earn a European spot by lifting the trophy. Unfortunately, they failed to do that, losing two weeks ago on penalties to Betis. They enter this match on the back of a 1-1 draw with rivals Levante last weekend with Hugo Duro scoring for Los Che in the 27th minute of the game while Oscar Duarte rescued a point by netting the equalizer.

The result left Jose Bordalas’s side in 10th position in the standings with nothing to play for. With four rounds to go till the end of the season, Valencia is sitting nine points behind the European spots having no chance to play in the European competitions next season. Valencia is winless in their last five domestic fixtures, sharing the points with Cadiz, Rayo Vallecano, and Levante, in addition to losing to Osasuna and Villarreal.

Their main objective is to improve on last term’s 13th place finish which was their lowest finish at this level since the 1987/88 season. Jose Gaya is out following his red card in the Valencia derby last weekend while Toni Lato is expected to remain on the sidelines through injury. Ilaix Moriba is back from a suspension but coach Bordalas has multiple options for the attacking line with Maxi Gomez also now available following an injury. If you’re betting online you should always try to understand the level of confidence in both dressing rooms but also the level of determination and the momentum.

Bilbao vs Valencia Head-to-Head

Each of the last three league matches between these two sides have finished level, including a 1-1 draw at Mestalla in the reverse fixture, while the corresponding clash last term also ended 1-1. Bilbao has the fifth-best defense in the league with just 34 goals allowed all season long. They’ve won nine in 17 home games scoring 28 goals in the process. Valencia has registered a total of just two wins on the road in the whole of 2022. The guests had recorded four of the past five overall wins at this stadium. Both teams have contributed to the scoresheet in four of the previous five mutual encounters between these two sides.

Bilbao vs Valencia Betting Lines

Bilbao vs Valencia Predictions

The hosts enter this clash as heavy favorites being priced at -185 on the three-way moneyline according to the latest soccer odds while the goal line is set at 2½.

Valencia once used to be one of the best teams in the Spanish top flight, but they cannot be considered one any longer. They are on a long winless run and have been letting in goals in huge numbers all through this current campaign. As these two lock horns this Saturday, it goes without saying that Bilbao has the edge on their opponents and we expect them to add three more points to their tally.

They are playing at home, which is always a huge advantage for any team, especially for Bilbao with their superb fans and they are in desperate need of points in order to stay in the race for seventh place in the standings and a spot in Europa Conference League.
