Bologna vs Inter Milan Betting Preview
Head to Head
Inter Milan embarrassed Bologna 6-1 in September as Edin Dzeko scored a brace. Inter has won three straight vs, Bologna and has been the better pick in this fixture.
Bologna last defeated Inter at home in 2002 and is winless in its last fifteen tries at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.
Bologna Missing Two Starters
Bologna snapped a three-game losing streak and moved into the top half just before the holiday break.
The Rossoblu picked up an impressive 3-0 win on the road at Sassuolo in December and are just five points outside of a European place. It was the first time since the beginning of October that Bologna managed to score three goals.
Heading into the match vs Inter, four Bologna players tested positive for COVID-19, including starters Aaron Hickey and Nicolas Dominguez.
Hickey, a 19-year old left back, scored vs Sassuolo and is the Rossoblu’s third-leading scorer. Dominguez has started all but one match in the center of midfield.
Bologna has already been an inconsistent pick for betting online this season, so the absences certainly don’t help matters. Inter has some COVID issues of its own, though.
Inter Milan Shutout Streak
Edin Dzeko, Inter’s second-leading scorer, tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss the match vs. Bologna. The 35-year old Bosnian International has eight goals and is targeting a return on Sunday vs Lazio.
Regardless, Inter has been excellent as of late and last lost in Serie A in mid-October. They’ve outscored their opponents by an impressive combined 17-0 scoreline in the last six matches. Forwards Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez receive a lot of plaudits but the defense has been similarly excellent.
The back three of Milan Skriniar, Alessandro Bastoni and Stefan de Vrij has been immense. Samir Handanovic has been arguably the best keeper in Europe’s top five leagues this season and made our Best XI of the midseason.
They’ll try to pick up an eighth consecutive win and a seventh straight shutout in the process on Thursday. Inter has been one of the best soccer picks of the season and is well on its way to another Serie A title.
Prediction
Inter built up so much momentum heading into the holiday break that it’s unclear whether the layoff will actually hurt them. They’re in the midst of a crucial period in which they’re contending for the Serie A, Coppa Italia, Supercoppa Italiana and Champions League.
In any case, five of the Nerazzurri’s last six wins have come by a multi-goal margin and they should certainly win here vs a team they beat 6-1 earlier in the season. Bet on Inter to cover the sportsbook spread and beat Bologna by more than one goal.
