Burnley vs Manchester United Game Preview, Live Stream, Odds, Picks & Predictions

I really missed the English Premier League during the last break. Don’t get me wrong, I love the World Cup qualifiers, but there’s nothing like the EPL. That’s why I’m glad to remind you that there’s going to be some midweek action, including Manchester United visiting Burnley.

The Red Devils are no longer title contenders, but they’re aiming to finish in the top four. That would mean a direct ticket to the Group Stage of the UEFA Champions League. On the other hand, last-place Burnley needs the three points to get out of the relegation zone.

Enough chit chat let’s check the latest news, stats, injury reports, and soccer lines for this crucial EPL game.

Burnley vs Manchester United

Burnley Last, Not Least

Yes, Burnley is sitting in last place, but I honestly think there are worse teams than the Clarets. For example, Norwich has scored fewer goals than them, while several teams have allowed a lot more goals. The list includes Newcastle, Watford and … Manchester United.

The Clarets haven’t won since late October but managed to get a goalless draw in their last two games. First, it was on the road against Arsenal and, most recently, at home against Watford. The defensive unit deserves a lot of praise because both opponents finished with more shots on target.

Burnley recently had a tough period due to injuries and COVID-19. However, the team has shown a lot of resilience. Having fixed many of their defensive problems is a huge step forward. The goals will come sooner or later. Plus, this isn’t the first time that the Clarets are in this situation. In other words, they know what it takes to turn things around.

So far, their only victory was at home while six of their eight losses were on the road. That means we’re talking about a team that’s considerably better when playing at home. That and the fact that they’re offering a +500 price makes them a tempting underdog. You could win $600 on a $100 sport bet on the Clarets.

Burnley’s predicted lineup: Nick Pope; Matthew Lowton, James Tarkowski, Ben Mee, Charlie Taylor; Johann Guomundsson, Ashley Westwood, Josh Brownhill, Dwight McNeil; Chris Wood, Jay Rodriguez.

Manchester United on Roll

As I mentioned before, the Red Devils can forget about the title. However, they can still think about finishing in third or second place. That should be enough for them to go all-in, but there’s more. Losing could mean falling to seventh place.

Regarding the EPL, Manchester United won its last two games by a 4-1 aggregate. They defeated Brentford 3-1 and followed that with a huge 1-0 victory over West Ham United. Having regained some confidence is a big deal, especially for Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire. They’re destined to become one of the best center-backs duos in the world.

With Mason Greenwood out due to personal issues, I expect Marcus Rashford to reclaim a spot in the starting lineup. Can you imagine Cristiano Ronaldo and Rashford playing together at 100 percent? Magical. This is when having a deep, talented roster can make a huge difference.

Curiously enough, Manchester United has lost more games at home than on the road. That’s in case you needed another reason to believe they deserve to be the betting online favorites at -170.

No major injuries to report here either. Manchester United’s predicted lineup: David de Gea, Diogo Dalot, Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Alex Telles; Scott McTominay, Fred; Jadon Sancho, Bruno Fernandes; Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford.

Burnley vs Manchester United Head to Head

  • Previous Matches: 131
  • Burnley Victories: 44 (187 goals)
  • Manchester United Victories: 64 (228 goals)
  • Draws: 23

The last time they met, Manchester United won 3-1. I told you to include the total going over 2½ goals in your soccer picks. The Red Devils won possession with 58 percent and made eight shots more. All three goals were during the first half and, of course, Ronaldo scored one of them.

Manchester United own a 7-2-1 record in its last 10 games against Burnley. The Clarets defeated the Red Devils for the last time in the 2019-20 season. The thing is that it was at Old Trafford.

Burnley vs Manchester United Prediction

Last weekend, Manchester United was eliminated from the FA Cup by Middlesbrough. That’s right, Middle-what? That’s why I think the Red Devils will go all-in right from the start. Nevertheless, Burnley has a lot to fight for and will put up a good fight. The visitors’ depth will make the minimal difference. Ronaldo won’t let the team suffer another embarrassing defeat.

Score Prediction: Manchester United 1, Burnley 0

Pick: Under 2½ goals (Ev)
