Celtic: Nothing at stake
Celtic have made a strong start to their domestic season, four points clear atop the Scottish Premiership after 11 fixtures. Ange Postecoglou’s side has once again shown attacking qualities in Scotland, ranking as the highest-scoring team in the league with 39 goals.
They failed to translate that amazing run in the Champions League, however, just two goals in four games and one point. That’s last, with no chance to advance further in the competition.
Celtic put together a fine run of form in recent weeks, and will look to claim their first Champions League win of the season. Can they be trusted? We don’t believe that’s the case, and won’t include them in our soccer picks and parlays. They oppose a Shakhtar side that’s enjoyed a decent campaign, and may move into second place with all three points here.
They will be without captain Callum McGregor for the match on Tuesday (long-term knee injury). It will sideline him several weeks, while Carl Starfelt will also miss this clash. Jota and David Turnbull are listed as doubtful. Celtic turned in a superb performance last out, rallying to earri a well-deserved 4-3 win at Hearts. They have now won their last three games across all of the competitions, 14 goals scored in the process.
Shakhtar Donetsk: Great pace
Shakhtar have been somewhat unhappy securing just five points. They will be eager to grab three in the Tuesday match. They’re trailing RB Leipzig by just one point, and still have chances to move along in the competition.
They travel to Celtic Park unbeaten in three matches, with a strong start in both the Ukrainian Premier League and Champions League. They’re second in the Ukrainian Premier League, 19 points in seven games, plus a game in hand on leader Dnipro. They were just 10 seconds shy of beating Real Madrid two weeks ago, then conceded the equalizer in the 95th minute of play.
Marian Shved, defender Yukhym Konoplya and midfielder Oleg Ocheretko are doubtful. It will be very tough to have Shakhtar maintaining the same level of play on the road. Everyone is aware just how difficult it is to visit Celtic. So, if you’re betting online, just avoid the ML, focus on goals.
Celtic vs Shakhtar Head-to-Head
The two teams shared the spoils in their last five head-to-heads, winning two each. The reverse fixture ended in a 1-1 draw. Shakhtar are unbeaten in three games, winning two and drawing one. Celtic enter Tuesday on a run of three wins across all of the competitions since a 2-0 loss to Leipzig. Celtic hasn’t trailed at the break in any of their seven home games this season.
