Chelsea vs Leicester City Predictions, Preview, Stream, Odds & Picks

Both Sides off to Rough Starts

Upside Down

Last season, Chelsea finished third in the English Premier League. As for Leicester City, the Foxes finished eighth, only four points behind seventh place, meaning they almost managed to qualify for a UEFA competition. Therefore, expectations around both teams were extremely high, but the new season hasn’t been kind to them.

The Blues are in 12th place thanks to a 1-1-1 record while the Foxes are in the relegation zone with a 0-1-2 record. Yes, the season has just started, but whoever loses this Saturday will officially fall into a crisis. The Blues dominate the soccer lines but the Foxes have put up a very good fight in their last visits to Stamford Bridge.

Let’s check the latest Premier League news, stats, injury reports and Premier league odds for Chelsea vs Leicester City. We’ve plenty of Premier League picks and predictions for you to consider.

Chelsea: Missing Lukaku, Werner

Chelsea opened the season with a 1-0 victory over Everton. Considering it was on the road, that’s not bad. The thing is that the lone goal was scored by defensive midfielder Jorginho, and it was from the penalty spot.

Later, the Blues drew 2-2 to Tottenham in their home debut. That was a heartbreaking result because the Spurs scored the equalizer in stoppage time. Once again, Chelsea’s goals were scored by defensive players, Kalidou Koulibaly and Reece James.

Most recently, they visited Leeds United and were humiliated 3-0. During the first half, the Peacocks scored two goals in a four-minute span. As if that wasn’t enough, Koulibaly was sent off right before the end of the game, meaning he won’t be available to face Leicester City.

Summing up, among other problems, the Blues are missing a proper central striker. They discarded Romelu Lukaku, who returned to Inter Milan, and Timo Werner, who returned to RB Leipzig. Yes, they had a poor season in 2021-22, but maybe manager Thomas Tuchel and his staff rushed a bit sending them away.

Don’t get me wrong, Chelsea’s attacking unit isn’t bad. After all, it includes Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech, but again, they need a proper No. 9. Rumor has it that they’re trying to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from FC Barcelona.

The Blues are offering a -250 in the sportsbook to win straight up. After all, we’re talking about a team that won the UEFA Champions League two seasons ago.

Leicester City: Not Looking Good

As mentioned before, Leicester City remains winless. The Foxes couldn’t even defeat Stockport County, a team from the English League Two, in the second round of the EFL Cup. The game, which was held last Tuesday, ended 0-0. The Foxes won the penalty shootout 3-1.

Regarding the EPL, the Foxes opened the season with a draw (2-2), at home, against Brentford. They were up 2-0, but the defense couldn’t hold up and Josh Dasilva scored the equalizer four minutes prior to the end of the game.

Later, they visited Arsenal and lost 4-2. Considering the Gunners are on fire, that wasn’t such a bad result. Most recently, they lost 2-1 to Southampton at home. Again, the Foxes were ahead but the defense couldn’t hold up. Che Adams scored the winning goal in the 84th minute.

Unlike Chelsea, Leicester does have a proper No. 9 in Jamie Vardy, but he hasn’t been able to score. Even so, having a striker like him is what makes the Foxes such a tempting underdog to include in your soccer picks, especially at +650. There’s also Patson Daka, who’ll be waiting patiently on the bench.

Chelsea vs Leicester City Head-to-Head

  • Previous Matches: 121
  • Chelsea Victories: 59 (213 goals)
  • Leicester City Victories: 27 (140 goals)
  • Draws: 35

Last season, these two collided twice. First, they met at King Power Stadium, where Chelsea had no trouble and ended up winning 3-0. Antonio Rudiger, N’Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic were the scorers. Later, as mentioned before, the Foxes put up a better fight at Stamford Bridge as the match finished 1-1. James Maddison scored the opener for Leicester while Marcos Alonso scored the equalizer.

We’re talking about a very even series, at least in recent times. For example, considering their last 10 meetings, Chelsea owns a slight advantage thanks to a 3-5-2 record.

Chelsea vs Leicester City Prediction

Despite having a rocky start, Chelsea is the better team, no doubt about it. However, Leicester City has an advantage: depth. Therefore, I expect the Foxes to put up another good fight at Stamford Bridge, enough for my betting online recommendation to be the Foxes +1½. They only lost in two of their last five visits to Stamford Bridge, and both losses were by only one goal.

Score Prediction: Chelsea 2, Leicester City 1
