La Roja Needs Mix of Results to Keep World Cup Hope Alive

Chile Must Defeat Uruguay

The home side has no other option. Otherwise, the dream of qualifying for its 10th World Cup will vanish in a jiff. And that’s not all, they also need Peru and Colombia to lose. Peru will play host to Paraguay, while Colombia will visit Venezuela.

As for Uruguay, la Celeste is already qualified. However, a victory could allow them to climb up to third place. Plus, with Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani, and Darwin Nunez commanding the attack, I can’t think of a more tempting soccer betting underdog. Especially at +210.

Let’s check the latest news, stats, injury reports, and soccer odds for Chile vs Uruguay. We have plenty of predictions for you to consider.

As well explore a variety of Concacaf odds and other soccer odds here to win!

Chile Shouldn’t be Suffering

Gary Medel, Arturo Vidal, Alexis Sanchez, and Eduardo Vargas. That’s Chile’s backbone. We’re talking about four experienced players that have won it all. And don’t forget about Charles Aranguiz, who’s having a great season at Bayer Leverkusen.

I didn’t include Claudio Bravo because the goalkeeper won’t be available to face la Celeste. He’s suspended.

Once again, Chile shouldn’t be suffering, or at least not as much as they did last Thursday in Brazil. They lost 4-0 to a team that has been qualified for a long time. Chile’s defensive unit was up to the task throughout the first half. Then, Neymar and Vinicius Junior were just too much.

Luckily for them, this crucial match will be at home, where they own a 3-2-3 record (2-2-5 on the road). La Roja scored in all its home games but two, Brazil and Ecuador. Not bad considering both are among the top defensive teams in the region.

Playing at home and the need to win are the main reasons for Chile to dominate the Las Vegas odds at +135. La Roja won its last game when playing as the favorite, 3-2 against Bolivia.

Besides Bravo, defender Paulo Diaz will also not be available for Tuesday’s game.

Uruguay Without Pressure

Defeating Peru 1-0 Thursday was enough for Uruguay to secure fourth place. The last one to grant a direct ticket for the World Cup. That was los Charruas third straight victory as they previously defeated Paraguay (1-0) and Venezuela (4-1).

I already mentioned Suarez, Cavani, and Nunez. However, none of them scored the goal that took them to the promised land. That privilege belongs to Giorgian De Arrascaeta, who has scored two goals since head coach Diego Alonso took over.

In other words, Uruguay has talent to spare. Cavani, Maximiliano Gomez, Lucas Torreira, and Damian Suarez came off the bench last Thursday. All four play in prestigious European clubs. And that’s not all because Facundo Torres, Martin Caceres, and Matias Vina didn’t play at all! All three would be starters in pretty much any other team.

Now you can fully understand why Uruguay is such a tempting underdog to include in your soccer picks. Yes, they’re already qualified, but internal competition doesn’t allow anyone to slow down.

Plus, there are no major injuries or absences to report.

Chile visited Uruguay in October and lost 2-1. Suarez opened the can from the penalty spot, while Sanchez evened the score for the visitors. Then, Gomez scored the winning goal on the last play of the game.

Last year, they also met in the Copa America. That game finished 1-1 with Vargas scoring for Chile and Vidal (own goal) for Uruguay.

Uruguay visited Chile for the last time on the road to Russia 2018 and lost 3-1.

Chile vs Uruguay Prediction

Chile is up against the wall, and Uruguay is the worst rival to face under those circumstances. Here’s why: la Roja must go all-in right from the start. That will create enough spaces for Uruguay’s powerful attacking unit to take advantage of. Plus, La Celeste has nothing to lose.

That being said, I expect an entertaining game, including plenty of goals. Also, bad news for Chile because my betting online prediction is a draw. As I mentioned before, that’s not enough for them to keep hope alive.

Score Prediction: Chile 2, Uruguay 2

Pick: Draw at +225
