Tempting Home Underdog

It’s not a secret that Portugal and Spain are the clear favorites to win the UEFA Nations League Group 2 (League A). However, after Matchday 1, the Czech Republic is in the driver’s seat. Defeating Spain would allow the home side to take a five-point lead over La Roja.

According to the soccer odds, it won’t be easy, as the Czech Republic comes in as the underdog at +375. Considering Jaroslav Silhavy’s team hasn’t lost in its last six home games, that’s very tempting.

Let’s check the latest news, stats, injury reports, and UEFA Nations League odds for Czech Republic vs Spain. We’ve plenty of predictions for you to consider.

Czech Republic: Team Effort

Gone are the days when the Czech Republic was led by an internationally famous player. Pavel Nedved was the last one. Now, that’s not necessarily a bad thing, as they showed in the Euro 2020 and the start of the UNL.

Regarding the European championship, Silhavy’s team reached the Round of 8 after defeating Netherlands 2-0. The Flying Dutchmen were among the soccer betting favorites to win the title. Most recently, in the start of the UNL, the Czech Republic defeated Switzerland 2-1.

Jan Kuchta opened the can 11 minutes into the game, but Switzerland evened the score right before the end of the first half. The Czech Republic didn’t despair even though the visitor’s dominated possession. Almost 15 minutes into the second half, the home side got its reward — an own goal — and the defense managed to hold.

The Czech Republic hasn’t lost in its last six home games (4-2-0). They scored in all games, including a seven-goal performance against Kuwait. On the other hand, they finished with a clean sheet three times.

Wagering $100 on the home side could make you win $475 in total.

Spain: Missed Opportunity

Spain opened the tournament with a draw against Portugal. Not bad, but the game was in Seville, meaning La Roja already lost two points at home.

Luis Enrique’s team dominated the game and had plenty of opportunities to win it. Alvaro Morata opened the can in the first half. He led the way alongside Ferran Torres and Pablo Sarabia. Ricardo Horta, who came off the bench alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, evened the score 10 minutes prior to the end.

The good news is that La Roja has talent to spare. Marco Asensio, Ansu Fati, Dani Carvajal and Marcos Alonso didn’t play. That means they’ll be more than rested to face the Czech Republic. There are very high expectations about Asensio and Fati playing together.

Spain is offering a -135 price in the sportsbook to win straight up. Keep in mind that La Roja only lost one of its last 10 games on the road, winning the last three with a 5-1 aggregate. That includes defeating Italy at San Siro.

Last, but not least, the visitors have no major injury concerns.

Czech Republic vs Spain Prediction

Spain can’t afford to lose. Besides the fact that the Czech Republic would get a five-point advantage, Portugal defeating Switzerland is very likely. That would complicate things too much for La Roja. Therefore, I expect the visitors to go all-in right from the start. The Czech Republic will put up a good fight, though. Not enough to pull off the stunner, but enough for me to recommend you include the over in your soccer picks. Spain scored in its last 15 games while the Czech Republic did it in eight of its last 10.

Score Prediction: Spain 2, Czech Republic 1
