Czech Republic: Group Underdogs

The Czechs missed out on a spot at the 2022 World Cup finals and no doubt, they are eager to make amends for the unsuccessful qualifying campaign. The Czech Republic knocked out the Netherlands in the Round of 16 of the Euro Cup and made it to the quarterfinals. They also we are one of the best scoring teams in the campaign. However, they could not manage to get through the playoffs, in order to win a ticket to Qatar, and this has been a massive letdown for the fans.

The Czech Republic had scored two or more goals in four of their past six overall fixtures, and it’s been almost two years since they have lost at home. Likely, chances are high for them to find the back of the net at least once this Thursday. There’s a but … as players like Patrik Schick, Antonin Barak and Tomas Holes have all been ruled out with injuries. The absence of Schick is, of, course, a huge blow, especially as Burnley striker Vydra is also ruled out.

The Bayer Leverkusen man has been in fine form in the Bundesliga this season, scoring 24 goals and providing three assists in 27 appearances. He finished as the second top goal scorer behind goal machine Robert Lewandowski and averaged a goal every 87 minutes. The forward finished as the joint top goal scorer at Euro 2020 and has scored seven goals in his last eight international games for the Czechs. His absence will be a huge miss for the Nations League.

The Czech side will be hoping to put their failure to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar behind them, but will come up against a Swiss side that went unbeaten in their qualifying group, so we will not include the hosts in our soccer picks and parlays. West Ham’s Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal have been named in Czech Republic’s 23-man squad for four UEFA Nations League A Group 2 ties in June.

Switzerland: Amazing Run

Switzerland are very organized at the back, keeping six clean sheets in their eight games and allowing just two goals on their way to qualifying for the World Cup finals in November. They will be hoping to improve on their last Nations League campaign, after finishing bottom of Group A4 with just three points earned in five games.

The Swiss managed to knock out reigning world champions France in the Round of 16 of the recently concluded Euro Cup 2020. It’s very important to note that they were trailing France by two goals with 15 minutes left to play but somehow they managed to pull off the biggest upset of the competition on penalties.

Benfica forward Seferovic returns despite making only 15 appearances for his club this season due to a persistent leg injury. Juventus midfielder Denis Zakaria is a significant absence as he recovers from a hamstring tear. Gladbach’s Breel Embolo and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Djibril Sow will lead the attacking line while Chicago Fire’s Xherdan Shaqiri will be the brain from the middle.

If you’re betting online you should know that Switzerland are only third favorites to top the group and will be looking for a positive start of their own if they are to have any chance of finishing above the more heavily fancied Spain Portugal in this group.

Czech Republic vs Switzerland Head-to-Head

Murat Yakin oversaw four clean sheets across Switzerland’s last five games as betting favorites, with three -1 spreads busting wins within that run. Switzerland impressed at Euro 2020 and have picked up three wins from their last six international matches, including big wins against Bulgaria and Lithuania. At least three goals have been scored in three of the previous four meetings between these two countries. Three of the hosts and three of the visitors’ last six outings in all competitions have also produced at least three goals. The Czech are unbeaten in their previous five home fixtures with three of them being friendly games.

Czech Republic vs Switzerland Predictions

The visitors enter this clash as slight favorites at +135 on the three-way moneyline according to the latest soccer odds while the goal line is set at 2½.

The Czech Republic have scored two or more goals in four of their past six overall fixtures, and it’s been almost two years since they have lost at home. Likely, chances are high for them to find the back of the net at least once this Thursday. Let’s not forget they are missing their top players for this clash.

Switzerland might have only won one of their four previous games against the Czech Republic but the visitors have the better of the two squads on paper and aren’t missing any of their attacking players. The Swiss were unbeaten in 19 of their previous 21 overall games, and the only two losses had come against England and Italy, both of whom were finalists in the recently concluded Euro Cup campaign. We should see at least three goals in this clash but for our official pick, we’re backing the visitors to return home with the three points.

Pick: Switzerland (+135)
