Definitely Consider Betting Uruguay to Win Copa America 2024

A roster full of talent and experience. One of the best head coaches in the game. The desire to win the tournament title for the first time since 2011. Those are the main reasons to consider Uruguay a serious candidate to win the Copa America 2024. There’s also the fact that Los Charruas are +500 in the sportsbook to dethrone Argentina. In fact, only La Albiceleste and Brazil are ahead on the odds board.

Copa America 2024 Information

  • Dates: June 20 – July 14
  • Location: USA (14 venues)
  • Teams: 16 (10 from CONMEBOL and six from CONCACAF)
  • Defending Champions: Argentina

Uruguay: 15 Copa America Titles

Alongside Argentina, also with 15 titles, Uruguay is the most successful team when it comes to winning Copa America. The thing is that Los Charruas haven’t won it since 2011. In fact, since 2011, they haven’t even reached the semifinals.

In 2021, they had no trouble advancing to the quarterfinals, but they failed to fulfill their role as betting online favorites against Colombia. After a goalless draw, Los Cafeteros ended up winning 4-2 in penalties.

In 2016, when the tournament was held in the United States for the first time, Uruguay didn’t meet expectations. Los Charruas finished third in Group C behind Mexico and Venezuela. They only managed to defeat Jamaica. Since 2011, they have been eliminated three times in the quarterfinals and once in the group stage.

Overall, Uruguay is 112-38-56 with 410 goals for and 222 against. Only Argentina has better numbers. Seven of the top 18 all-time scorers are from Uruguay, but none remains active. However, that means we’re talking about a team that truly believes the best defense is a good offense. No wonder five players from Uruguay are on the odds board to win the Golden Boot, but more on that a bit later.

Federico Valverde, Other Certified Winners Leading the Way

Here’s another reason for Uruguay to be among the soccer betting favorites to win the Copa America 2024 title. The roster is full of certified winners, starting with Federico Valverde, who at 25 already won it all with Real Madrid, including the last edition of La Liga and the UEFA Champions League. Valverde is considered one of the best midfielders in the world.

Regarding midfield, there’s also Manuel Ugarte, who was crucial for Paris Saint-Germain to win three titles in the 2023-24 season.

Now, let’s talk about the defense, which is led by Ronald Araujo, considered one of the best center-backs in the game. Araujo, who plays for FC Barcelona, already won La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. The defensive unit also includes Sebastian Caceres, who recently won the Liga MX title with Club America.

Finally, the attacking unit will be led by Darwin Nunez and Luis Suarez. Nunez plays for Liverpool and is considered one of the best strikers in the world. He already won two titles with the Reds and finished the 2023-24 season with 18 goals. As for Suarez, who plays for Inter Miami, he won it all with FC Barcelona, including the UCL.

Uruguay Highly Favored to Win Group C

Before thinking about dethroning Argentina, Uruguay must think about winning Group C, in which Los Charruas will face the United States, Panama and Bolivia. According to the latest soccer lines, they shouldn’t have any trouble finishing atop the standings since they’re offering a -135 price. They’re followed by the Stars and Stripes at +135.

Beyond Group C, Uruguay is +275 to reach the Grand Finale and +500 to win the title. Argentina and Brazil are the favorites to win gold at +175 and +225, respectively. Only those three teams are under +1000. If you aren’t convinced about Uruguay winning the title, Los Charruas are +250 to be eliminated in the semifinals. That’s a very good deal.

Individually, as mentioned before, there are five players from Uruguay on the board to win the Golden Boot. Of course, Nunez and Facundo Pellistri come first at +600 and +2500. Suarez is next at +2800 and Brian Rodriguez is +4000. Finally, there’s Valverde at +6600. Yes, he’s a midfielder, but he has a cannon for a leg!
