Prior to the start of the Copa America 2024, Mexico and Ecuador were the betting online favorites to win Group B. Now, Los Aztecas are +1200 while Ecuador is +1000. On the other hand, Venezuela is -1000.

As if that weren’t enough, the loser of Sunday’s match between Mexico vs Ecuador will be eliminated. In fact, Mexico can’t even afford to draw. In other words, welcome to the Game of the Week!

Mexico vs Ecuador Betting Odds

No Clear Soccer Betting Favorite for Mexico-Ecuador

Mexico is +178 in the odds board to win straight up. Ecuador is +172 in the odds board to win straight up. That means you can expect a close, back-and-forth match in which there should be plenty of goals, enough to take the over at -125.

This will be the first time that Mexico isn’t the favorite in the 2024 edition of the continental tournament. Los Aztecas suffered much more than expected to defeat Jamaica 1-0 in their debut and lost to Venezuela (also 1-0) in their second presentation.

Mexico could have rescued a point against Venezuela but Orbelin Pineda couldn’t convert from the penalty spot with only four minutes left on the clock. He didn’t miss, but goalkeeper Rafael Romo denied Pineda from becoming half a hero.

As for Ecuador, La Tricolor lost 2-1 to Venezuela in the first game and bounced back with a 3-1 victory over Jamaica in the second. Keep in mind that they played 60 minutes of the first game with only 10 players since Enner Valencia was sent off.

With Valencia out, who’s expected to return for Sunday’s clash, Kendry Perez led the attacking unit and managed to score once against Jamaica. The first goal was an own goal scored by Kasey Palmer and Alan Minda sealed the deal in stoppage time.

Ecuador is one of those teams that truly believes the best defense is a good offense. The South Americans averaged 2.2 goals in their last four matches in all competitions.

For me, that’s more than enough to recommend you include Ecuador in your soccer picks. Mexico won’t be able to handle the pressure and at this point it’s just too much. Plus, since it’s not a tournament organized by CONCACAF, Los Aztecas won’t have the referees on their side.

Mexico’s Santiago Gimenez Prime Prop Betting Pick

The fact that I believe Ecuador is going to win doesn’t mean I don’t expect a good fight from Mexico. Regardless of the result, four of Mexico’s last five matches in all competitions finished with a one-goal difference.

There’s also the fact that I already recommended you to take Ecuador and bet on the over, but I don’t expect the South Americans to score three goals, which means Mexico must score one. That’s where Santiago Gimenez comes into play.

The center-striker has been heavily criticized, especially after missing some chances against Venezuela. However, we can’t forget he scored 23 goals for Feyenoord in the 2023-24 season of the Eredivisie. He needs to score and he will do whatever it takes to do it.

Regarding Ecuador, you must take Valencia, who’s eager to return and prove that, at age 34, he remains one of the best in the business. Plus, we can’t forget he’s Ecuador’s all-time top scorer with 41 goals. Despite missing one game due to suspension, he’s a contender for the Golden Boot at +6600 in the sportsbook. That means he still gets the respect he deserves.
