Bounce Back Teams
Going into the 2022/23 Bundesliga season, Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig are carrying expectations after a successful campaign. Both teams will play in the Champions League this season, with Frankfurt winning the Europa League and Leipzig finishing fourth in the league. But, neither club has lived up to that, as each is off to a 1-2-1 start.
The good thing is they come into their meeting off victories and look to turn the corner.
Eintracht Frankfurt Rough Start
It is always a challenge to start league play facing the team that has dominated the Bundesliga for the last decade, Bayern Munich. You almost have to look at Eintracht Frankfurt‘s rough start excluding the 6-1 thrashing they received from Bayern.
The next three games were hard-fought by Frankfurt. Two 1-1 draws against Hertha BSC and 1. FC Koln, before getting their first league win over Werder Bremen. Frankfurt’s offense came alive, scoring three goals in the first half and the fourth just three minutes into the second, to win 4-3.
Since Filip Kostic left on a transfer for $25 million to Italian giant Juventus right after facing Bayern, the team’s offense has struggled. Daichi Kamada and Randal Kolo Muani have scored over half of the team’s goals, with just two each. The pair also has three of the team’s four assists.
Without possession, Frankfurt has struggled, allowing the second most goals in the league. Part of that is due to their first game, but they also allowed three against Werder Bremen. Finding a balance is vital if Frankfurt wants to return to the Champions League the following year.
RB Leipzig Attacking Potential
RB Leipzig also started its domestic season against Bayern in the German Super Cup, losing 5-3. They then went winless in their first three games in the Bundesliga, leading to concerns about the team, who had become staples in the top four.
They drew 1-1 against VfB Stuttgart but dominated with 68% possession and 28 shots. VAR overturned an early goal and a red card before halftime, leading to a 2-2 draw with Koln. Panic started to surge as the team lost 2-1 to Union Berlin, again, seemingly dominating the game with 74% of possession and outshooting their opponent 16 to 7.
However, the club seems to be shifting, as they beat Wolfsburg with a brace from Christopher Nkunku, bringing his total to four. The offense carried over into their recent DFB Pokal game, scoring eight goals against Teutonia Ottensen, with Timo Werner scoring a hat-trick in his fourth game back with the club.
The offensive firepower for Leipzig could be off the charts, with Werner, Nkunku, Yussuf Poulsen (when he is healthy), and Andre Silva leading the front line. On top of that, the creative ability of Daniel Olmo and Konrad Laimer creates chances. Leipzig has the ability to rival Bayern in goal output this season with all the talent they have.
Eintracht Frankfurt vs RB Leipzig Head-to-Head
In their 13 meetings, the two sides are at a standstill. They have won three games apiece while drawing seven. On the other hand, Eintracht Frankfurt has been the team ahead recently, going undefeated in their last six meetings, with two wins. This is despite the fact that RB Leipzig has consistently ranked higher than Frankfurt in the standings.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs RB Leipzig Prediction
Going off recent history, Eintracht Frankfurt has been able to withstand RB Leipzig and even be better than them in their meetings. But that likely ends now. Frankfurt’s defense has struggled, not holding a clean sheet in their last five matches. At the same time, Leipzig’s attacking front is starting to put things together. Leipzig is too good of a team to lose this time and has the ability to take advantage of a faltering defense.
Score Prediction: RB Leipzig 3, Eintracht Frankfurt 1
